So. No proposal, just more clues. But it was seriously the best day I’ve had all year! π We closed on the house without a hitch, met friends for happy hour, had dinner alone later that night. All in all I think we spent 5 1/2 hours eating and drinking and having a good time. It was AWESOME. But something odd happened.
I was talking with my SO and his coworker and one of his friends was pointing out who we were to a girl he was with. You know how when you hear someone talking about you your ears prick and you begin to listen to 2 conversations at once? So, while we’re talking I hear us being introduced behind me. My SO’s friend says to the girl, “This is claireos and her guy. They just closed on a house today and it’s their anniversary. They’re getting engaged.” End sentence.
BAM! Just like that. As time goes by I’m starting to question myself more and more as to whether or not I actually heard that because I technically wasn’t totally listening to any one conversation. But this guy has trouble keeping info to himself and I am 99% sure I heard him use the words “they’re getting,” it’s just the “engaged” part I’m starting to question. But what else sounds like engaged that I could have mistaken it for? I’m so tempted to say something to my SO but if it was true I don’t want to ruin anything. And if it isn’t true…well, I wouldn’t want to say anything in that case.
And again, maybe I’m just reading into it too much because technically I know that we’re getting engaged…at some point…in the future. I know because we talked about it. But why would someone say it so matter-of-factly if it weren’t occurring SOON. Am I crazy? π
Just wanted to send my theory out to the world. Feel like it’s safer to say here than to hold it in and risk it slipping out during a moment of drunken verbal diarrhea. π

@Mrs.Vowrenewal: I agree. This weekend is going to be super busy so I’m hoping the mystery of it all vanishes and I completely forget it happened. I would hate to open my mouth and have my curiosity ruin something. It’s tough though. I’d be lying if I said otherwise. Curiosity really did kill the cat. π

@mattsgirl813: Thanks π That’s what I thought too. If it weren’t coming for another year, why would you even mention it to anyone? But it makes me wonder about the when though. Birthdays are out of the way, anniversary is done with, Valentines is over, house is purchased, fur baby was found. There are no more landmarks this year that I could really point at and go hmm maybe.

@mattsgirl813: Maybe. which is even more impressive because it means the easiest read in the library has morphed himself into ft. knox. π That or I was particularly wired that day and mistook they’re getting dinner for they’re getting engaged. Crazier things have happened. π

I definitely would NOT say anything to him or your close friends! I think it sounds like it’s going to happen soon! A similar situation happened to one of my girlfriends- she said something to her then boyfriend, he was crushed AND then he waited 6 more months before he actually did propose because he felt if he did propose then it wouldn’t be as special… end result: took him longer, she ended up getting upset knowing it was supposed to happen but then she had to keep waiting. I’m so excited for you! I think you should just sit back and wait! I’m guessing it’s going to be pretty soon because guys only usually tell their friends right before, or at least my guy friends have been that way. I told my bf not to tell any of his friends because they all have leaky little mouths hehe GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks everyone π
@Sweetpea6: You know, that’s the exact scenario that went through my head when I was thinking about why it would be bad to open my mouth. But when you say “right before” what kinda of generalized time frame are you refering to.? Did they start running their mouths weeks before they did something? Months?
