I am just over 22 weeks pregnant and have been having some major period-like cramping this morning, bad for two hours then easing off a little bit right now. No bleeding at all and haven’t had any this whole pregnancy. My doctor’s office is closed today but they do have an answering service that I am trying to get through on (on hold). I will be asking them this same question but hoping for some insight from you ladies.
– Getting up and walking around does not seem to help so I don’t think its early BH
– I have been going to the bathroom a lot thinking it was just an upset stomach but I also did that when I had cramping before my period started (before I was pregnant). It feels very similar.
– At my 18 weeks anatomy scan they found a small cyst on one of my ovaries… I believe this might be causing my pain right now, maybe it is rupturing?
– I am still feeling my little girl kicking so I am not as worried about miscarriage (thank you baby).
– I am currently at work but can leave to go to the doctors or urgent care.
Still waiting to get through to my doctors answering service, going to have to start over on my work phone because my cell is dying, yay. Any other questions I should ask once I get through to make sure I do the right thing?

Urgent care may or may not have an ultrasound machine, so if you decide to seek care, I’d give them a call to see if they have an ultrasound and if not, head to the emergency room instead. And if they want you to be monitored for contractions or early labor, they might send you straight to labor & delivery. I’d definitely wait and see what the on call doctor says. Period cramps sounds a lot like what my BH feel like, and they usually get better with rest and lots of water/hydration, but see what your doctor says – better safe than sorry. Good luck!

It’s probably the cyst, I would try to wait until you can get in contact with your doctor. It’s really good that baby is still moving, I’m sure everything is ok.

KatieBklyn: That is a really good point about an ultrasound machine being available. If the answering service wants me to go somewhere I will definitely see if they can recommend a place with the right equipments!
Lyndzo: Yeah because she is still moving I am not freaking out

Wait until you talk to your doctor. I had the same thing happen to me at about 14 weeks and ended up rushing to the emergency room. I was there for over 8 hours and they had no idea what was wrong so they basically had me wait and the pain eventually subsided. They gave me a rhogam shot bc they thought my body was rejecting the baby (which it wasn’t). And then they thought I had preeclampsia (which again I didn’t). So when I left I made an appt with my doctor for the next day and turned out to be a cyst.

Made it through to the on call doctor in my practice. He went over all my concerns and said without the key words of bleeding, gushing fluid, no movement, or fever that there was no need to go to urgent care or get an ultrasound right now. He told me to call them back if anything changed. I had a feeling that would be the answer but it was good to hear it from the doctor! Thanks for your stories!

Oh and he said to make sure to stay really hydrated to help, in case anyone else finds this in the furture with similar concerns. I hope the cramping goes away soon, it is hard to concentrate on work!

Did you at least make an appointment to be seen? I had a doc poo-poo me and ended up with some scary stuff.

I would at least make an appointment…especially if you are worried. I had a similar situation, the doctors thought I was just being paranoid, gave me the same run down and said no need to go to urgent care. A few hours later I was still not feeling “right” went to labor and delivery anyways and had some serious issues. My daughter is perfectly healthy and it all worked out but had I not listened to my body and stayed home it could have been very bad.

PeachyMama: lacelove0613: Thanks for your concern ladies! Since the office isn’t open today I wasn’t able to make an appointment but I will be calling tomorrow morning to follow up and see if they can fit me in. The cramping has gotten a little better and I am still feeling the baby move around with her usual timing so unless it doesn’t get better by evening/gets worse I will be waiting til tomorrow to see someone.

I have PCOS (ovarian cysts) and I had some cramping when I was 15 weeks with my first. Went to the ER just to be safe (I assumed it was a new cyst causing the pain). U/S tech at the hospital couldn’t find anything despite me telling her what to look for. A few days later at my regular U/S with my OBs office the sonographer found the new cyst right away. So that’s my guess. Shouldn’t cause any issues with the pregnancy, I got pregnant with 3 cysts the first time and got a 4th during the pregnancy. Got pregnant this time with 3 cysts and they’re still just hanging out in there.
