- Wedding: November 1999
My mom, who bought my dress but is NOT paying for anything else in our wedding, keeps asking us to make changes to our wedding. She doesn’t like the cake we picked and found others she likes better that she emailed to me. She wants me to add a 2nd flower girl… my brother’s stepchild, whom I’ve never met (and I cut my brother out of my life many years ago so this is especially weird). She hates the birdcage veils that I love and we can’t even say the word “veil” to each other anymore, as she wants me to have some cathedral-type of thing and it start an argument anytime it comes up. I am soooooooooo tired of having to repeat myself to her over and over about how this isn’t her wedding, and that she can have a vow renewal and include all of those things if it’s important to her. She’ll never do a vow renewal, but it’s my way of reminding her that she has her own choices she can make. My Fiance and I are paying for this, and we want it to reflect US. *sigh* Of course, there’s more drama, but those are the stressing items on my mind today.
Anyway, my Fiance and I decided to have a small ceremony the day after our wedding, with Elvis at one of those cheesy types of chapels that are quintessential to Vegas. We are actually a thousand times more excited for that than we are for the bigger wedding. Then a rerun of The Office came on last night, showing how Jim and Pam essentially did the same thing. It’s uncanny (and maybe a sign?) Anyone else out there doing something similar?
