I am new to the board, but I have a question for everyone.
I just ordered my dress and I am so in love with it. We are getting married in September and the venue is my Fiance’s Uncle’s house…huge with a gorgeous garden. So we’re having tents etc. Very similar to the setting in the move "Father of the Bride"
Anway, I am very concerned about moving around in my dress at the reception. And I really want something that I can also feel sexier in.
My ceremony dress is definitely my dream dress and I got it for about 1/3 of what I was willing to spend. Is it too over the top to order a reception dress? I also like the mermaid style, but I didn’t want that for my ceremony dress.
Here’s my ceremony dress
Here’s the other mermaid dress that I am also in love with
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I think it is perfectly fine to have two dresses if you love them both. I had two for mine. Just do what you want, it’s your day. I wore the first dress for the ceremony and the second for the reception, which was a surprise for my husband.

Sure why not? That’s something that’s popular these days. Is someone giving you a hard time? It not one of those issues that would offend or inconvenience your guests. It’s just one of those "it’s your wedding" decisions. Be happy.

You only get married once! If you love 2 dresses, go for it! It is so fun and unexpected when the bride changes. It really sets the tone too… when the bride changes into her sexier dress, it means it’s time to PARTY!

Go for it. This is your big chance to be a princess for the day so take full advantage of it!! I think this is an especially good idea since you’ll be outside for the reception.
by the way… I’m in love with the ceremony dress.. Amazing!

My Fiance thinks it’s a great idea, he says he would love to see me in a sexy dress for the recption.
My Dad thinks it’s ridiculous, but mom thinks it is also an awesome idea.
I haven’t really discussed it with too many other’s because I know better than that.
I just don’t want to do something that I might regret later. I am definitely in love with my ceremony dress and you’d have to take some sort of ballistic weapon to pry it away from me, but I am a traditionalist and I just don’t want to look back on the whole thing 20 years from now and say, what was I thinking? Why don’t I have more pictures of me in the ballgown dress?
Thanks again for your support, at the prices that I am paying for both dresses combined, I think I am going to go for it.

FrenchCountry, I just have to say that both of your dresses blow my mind. Do you have pictures of yourself in them? That ball gown is so dramatic and gorgeous, and the reception dress is so modern and stylish! It looks a lot like a Romona Keveza that I was in love with for a while. 🙂
How on earth did you find such good deals? I say that if two dresses are in your budget and they make you happy, you should do it! 🙂

Get it! Both of them are beautiful. Ultimately, it’s what you want on your special day and how comfortable wil you be. I bought my wedding dress on a Monday and immediately felt a little bit of remorse because I liked the dress but did not love it. The next day, I found a 2nd dress on Ebay for $125 that was much more my style. I will be wearing that dress for the reception since the first one is a corset back and not good for sitting. 😛

2 dresses would not be for me as I take a ridiculous amount of pride in my frugality, but if you’re under budget and it’s what you really want, presuming there’s not something else you’d prefer to do with the money you saved, then sure, go for it!

Drifts like Smoke,
Thank you for the compliment. I just ordered my ceremony dress last week so I should have it in about 5 weeks. I am still contemplating the mermaid, but I will probably order that one next week.
And really that’s exactly why I want both dresses. One is traditional the other…contemporary. I love being eclectic.
I found this website because my cousin ordered her dress from them last year. She actually ordered a custom made gown that she and their designer created together. I have to tell you that everyone thought she was crazy for ordering online. But she really liked the owner and emailed her to death. Then she just went for it.
Her dress came out stunning, I couldn’t believe that she only paid $459 for it. The only reason that I got to see it was because my aunt insisted that she show me. She is totally keeping it under wraps as we have a lot of friends and family that are engaged and all over the wedding forums trying to get a peek at her dress!
When I get mine, I will probably post it, but without a picture that has my face in it. Again thank you for the compliment and I am going to take your advice and get that second dress.
