OH now I remember why I picked other!  A coworker of my SO’s had a 2nd interview and did not get the job.  πŸ™  He was super bummed because he thought he did amazing and he had a couple phone interviews with them on top of the 2 in person interviews.

I’ve had it go both ways. Before going into the legal profession, I’ve always been offered the job after a second interview. Since law school, second interviews have been a little less consistently successful :-/ I think, because second interviews are a bigger time commitment and no one likes wasting their own time, they don’t get offered as freely, so you can rest assured when you get one that you are one of a small number of people being seriously considered.

Too many choices for me!  πŸ™‚  All I know is that every time I have gotten a second interview, I have gotten the job.

It’s not true. We bring in lots of people for 2nd interviews. We flew one candidate out for 3 seperate interviews and then they went to the corporate offices. They had a total of 5 interviews and they did not get the job.

I used to think that a second interview meant that you had the job until I had two great second interviews that got me nowhere!  In both cases I was told I was competing against one other person, so I guess the other person got the best of me.

In the job I have now I was told that they were bringing in three or four people for a second interview, but having worked here for awhile I now know that I was actually the only one that they brought in and they just wanted to put me through the ringer a second time.

    Congrats on your job.  πŸ™‚

I’ve only had one 2nd interview & they later told me it was because they couldn’t decide between me & 1 other person. They said they really liked me but since they couldn’t decide, the other person with 1 year extra experience won. I was fine with it, but they kept saying how great of a match I was & that I clicked so well so I for sure thought I had the job & was really bummed when I wasn’t hired.

2nd interviews are for the people they are seriously considering for the job (likely its between you & 1 or 2 other people). I would say your chances are probably 50/50. 2nd interviews are usually to see how well you “click” with them, they’re more in depth. That’s how it was for me.

The 1st interview was basically “this is what we do, can you handle it?”, the 2nd interview was “this is who we are, do you fit in?”

first off, congrats on the new job!

second, i’ve had a couple of second interviews and i didn’t always get the job but its generally a good sign. they wouldn’t ask you back if they didn’t see something in you, you know? my second interviews also involved other members of the department so they can gauge how well i’d get along with the whole group. they’ve been pretty more in-depth and lasted longer than an hour, much longer than your typical first interview.
