Unfortunately with going off of the pill, really anything is fair game!  The only thing that sounds a little odd is that you got a period so soon after going off of the pill.  Do you mean that you stopped taking the pill and 5 days later got a period (as in, you only had 6 days between periods?)

I would say that your doc probably won’t see you for a blood test until at least 14 DPO and probably not before 45 or so days since your last period.   You will hear a lot of “it can take a lot of time for your body to regulate” comments from them.  I would say that your plan to wait 14 DPO to test is a good one.  Usually by then the early response tests can pick up a postivie pregnancy.  Each test is different with how sensitive they are though.  I think the digital CBE can detect HCG at 50 — and by 14 DPO your HCG will probably be high enough to test if in fact you are pregnant.

I agree with PP, you just never know if it’s the pill or pregnancy. When I got off, I had extremely sore boobs, I was light headed, etc. I swore I was pregnant. Of course I wasn’t, it was just b/c I got off the pill. And when I was pregnant (both times) I had no symptoms until a couple of weeks after the test came back positive.

i agree with PPs, it’s hard to tell the first month you go off the pill cause your body is adjusting. BUT…the symptoms you describe – tinges of sharp pain and mucous-y discharge – actually sound like signs of OVULATION to me. some women can feel ovulation when it happens and it does feel like a sharp lightening bolt in your lower abdomen. the thick egg-white mucous discharge was a sure sign of ovulation for me (the night i noticed it the most while ttc is the night i got pregnant!).

is it possible that you actually ovulated later than you think you did – on or around DP 17? you could have a long cycle, or at least this first month while your body is adjusting.

@jholler25:

It’s been a Long time ago, but I know that when I got pregnant the first time, I had a little bit of pink tinted discharge, and I thought I was starting my period, but it was implantation bleeding-cause I never got my period after that! lol!

@jholler25: What you said about getting your period confuses me because in normal birth control usage when you hit the end of the active pills, the sugar pills are there during the withdrawl bleed. I had my normal withdrawl bleed “period” after taking my last active pill and am now waiting for my body to regulate and produce an ovaluation producing period. In terms of the “period” are you talking about the withdrawl bleed or a true period?

I will say that I noticed ovaluation symptoms soon after going off of the pill. Right now, I’m just waiting for a period to happen before charting.
