    @eastcoaster:  I am actually trying to figure out plans for my husband’s 30th!  I was considering a surprise party but I think I am going to surprise him with a weekend getaway about 2 hours away – I could either use the money for a 3 hour party or a 3-night hotel stay, and I’m definitely leaning toward the latter.  Is there any place not too far away that your husband would like to go? I know there are plenty of fun places to visit in New England!

    Edit: my husband would also love a party with friends, but I think he’d appreciate the time away even more.  we can always do an informal bday dinner with friends in addition to going away.

    @eastcoaster:  Well if your Darling Husband is anything like mine he would LOVE the beer and chili option with friends coming over afterwards. He would also love the surprise party too. Go with what you think he would love the most. I am all about themed parties that are relevant to childhood!

    For my DH’s 30th birthday I threw him a huge Ninja Turtle themed party at his parent’s house. At first he didn’t want the party but after he got there and into it he loved it. It was amazing!!

    Just a few pics for inspiration:

    @eastcoaster:  You could always bring his costume to the event and he can change after he gets there. Or you could tell him it is just a costume party somewhere else if you hold it at another location…he doesn’t have to know it is for his birthday.

    @Treejewel19:  That is just awesome!

    My DH’s 30th is in a month. I actually booked a cruise and told him I was taking him on a trip. He has no idea where we are going. His B’Day falls on a Tuesday so that Saturday I’m having a party at our house. He doesn’t know it’s a tropical island theme party and he won’t find out until party time because I’m having someone keep him away while I decorate.

    I’ll tell him we’re going to the Bahamas and when we land in Miami he’ll find out we’re getting there by cruise.

    Hope he enjoys his surprise 🙂

    @eastcoaster:  It could still be a costume party.  Order his costume ahead of time, surprise him with the party at hme, and then tell him to go change into his costume.

    For my 30th in December, we’re getting dressed up like characters from This is Essex and having a “Reem” night out on the town.  This reminds me, I need to work on my fake British accent.

    Does he like those sorts of surprises? Mr. Lk would be extremely uncomfortable in a surprise party situation. He needs to mentally prep ahead of time.

    For Mr. LK’s 30th we went to a B&B for the weekend, met up with friends who lived nearby for dinner, explored the neat little towns nearby, and did a round of sporting clays with a big group of friends. It was exactly his style.

    I vote party at your place but I tend to like laid back gatherings. I obviously don’t know what your husband prefers. 🙂

    For DH’s 30th, we went to our favorite sushi & hibachi restaurant with a bunch of friends.
