We are having a boy (due May 26, less than two weeks from now) and are still unsure about baby names. I think it may come to me when he’s born but I just want to get some general feedback on these options. Honestly, we like them all and think they’re good choices, but are a bit indecisive about which will be the best choice.
Feel free to vote for more than one if you don’t have a clear winner/like more than one. These are our top choices, so please do not ruthlessly criticize these names in your comments. Keep it positive (talk about why you like one name versus why you hate the other!) Ethan is very popular these days, but also a family name, so that’s why you see it appear a bunch. James is my husband’s name. Our last name is two syllables, starts with a G and ends with “-en.” Also, feel free to suggest different names (especially for Graham, as we had a hard time thinking of good MN choices for Graham!)
Thank you so much!

I love the idea of your husband’s name as a middle name. We did the same with my son, especially because my husband is Michael III and didn’t want to name our son Michael, so we used it for his middle name. I like Alexander James and Ethan James but chose Alexander because of the ease of him having a nickname as he gets older. All the names are great though. Congrats!

I preferred Alexander James because it rolls off the tongue well. I really don’t have a problem with Ethan either, though. Not into Graham, but that’s my own thing, I think because I associate it with a last name; my cousin named her son that to carry on the family name and it works well for him.

We have friends who named their son Graeme Thomas.

I don’t think Ethan as a middle name flows very well with the first name options presented. I like the last two options.

Alexander James! With Ethan James in second place.
Graham as a first name throws he because it sounds like it might be too matchy-matchy with your surname? Alexander Ethan sounds blocky. Alexander James flows nicely, Ethan James isn’t as ‘roll-off-the-tongue’ but still sounds nice. I guess you would know when you meet him if he’s an Alexander or an Ethan.

I’m a teacher. We are overloaded with: Aiden, Ethan, Alexander, Jonathan, Noah and Connor. For Girls: Isabella, Addison, Ava, Madison, Madeleine and Olivia. Any hopes for another name?

I adore the name Graham! I’m also a big fan of James (my late father’s name) and anything that is a family name. There is just something special about passing down names.
I voted for Graham Ethan and Ethan James. IMO Ethan James rolls off the tongue better, but as I said I <3 Graham.

Alexander gets my vote. Ethan or James.

What is your husband’s middle name? Any chance you would want to do a Jr.? I voted Ethan James because I think it flows the best, but I do love James as a first name too.

I really like Ethan James! Graham is my second pick though. What about Graham Elliot – Graham Jameson – Graham Vincent

merrymargaret : Haha, this is exactly what I didn’t want to hear. As I said, I know some are popular names. But these are our top names. Thanks anyway!

Thank you so much ladies! Your feedback has been so helpful!! Keep the votes coming.

I don’t necessarily have a preference between Alexander or Ethan but I think graham should be taken off the list based on your last name.
