When I was in high school, I had horrible acne. I’m talking the worst of the worst. I tried everything with a dermatologist for 2 years and ultimately had to go on ACCUTANE. That stuff is hardcore and only a VERY last resort. It was a miracle for me and I haven’t had any problems since. My skin doesn’t have any scarring either. It’s a really intense prescription drug, but it works. I’d do it all over again if I had to.

In college,  I was prescribed a clear gel to put on them when I got them,  right under my jaw.  It worked very fast to clear them up. Clindamycin phosphate topical gel.

MrsZed:  cheapest remedy that is available OTC and 24/7 is drawing salve. You can get it in target/cvs, etc…

I know this post is old, but if you ever had that issue again (cycstiic acne can be PAINFUL), try AcZone!

Well if it’s hormonal you could start taking Vitex. It’s an herb you can get for cheap at any health food store and regulates hormones. I would start today. Then go to the derm. they can out you on a very low grade antibiotic which will prevent acne (I did this for my wedding) as a last resort, if you have any bad ones the week before they can shoot them up with cortisone. They shrink immediately. You pay for it though- 60-100$ per shot. A lot of it might be stress though which I know is hard to prevent so close to your wedding! Take excellent care of your skin- change pillow cases frequently and wash your face frequently and do not touch or pick anything!

I had a similar issue and went to see a dermatologist. She gave me an antibiotic called acticlate I think. I also had two different creams for am and pm. It was Aczone and Ziana. She also recommended Cera Ve face wash and mousturizer. It’s been a couple months and my face has cleared up completely. My only problem now is the leftover redness from scarring, but it’s easier to cover scars with makeup.

I’m having the same problem as you and I’m freaking out since my wedding is in 4 months. I’ve had cystic acne since I was 16. I’m now 26 and it’s gotten worse. I’ve been told I probably have a hormonal imbalance and might be dominant in testosterone and that’s why it won’t go away. I’m going to get that checked soon, but in the meantime I’ve been getting chemical peels about once a month to keep it under control. I would definitely go see a dermotologist ASAP because you don’t have much time.

kmdunford:  ask about spironalactone it’s the only thing that helped me. I’m no longer on it and haven’t had any reoccurrence (other than during early pregnancy). This regulates testosterone in your body and helps if you are producing too much.

schmeckpepper:  Oh really? That stuff sounds great! I’ll make sure to look into it, thank you! 🙂 I’m going to see a specialist in a few weeks to get my hormone levels checked and they said once they can figure out what my imbalance is and correct it, then my acne should go away for good. Hopefully it works because I’m sick of having big red craters on my face, back and chest. I feel so gross in my own skin… Ugh! 🙁

When my skin broke out horribly in 2015, I was so unhappy with all the damage and scarring, afterall the products i spent money on, I got desperate and went the organic route. No chemicals, and you can eat it, so it can’t be that bad for my face, atleast that’s what I told myself haha

Cleanse face with organic coconut oil. $18 for a 2 Litre tub.
Toner for the face, Apple Cider Vinegar(must be ‘with Mother’) $7 for a bottle 749ml
Moisturize with Grapeseed oil & Argan Oil. $7 for 499ml / $12 for 4oz

The apple cider vinegar stinks like high heaven, but after it dries, it no longer lingers. It also stings like a a b**** slap laced with acid, but soooo worth it. Took 2 weeks, and it was like the apple cider vinegar was forcing my skin to lift and push the damaged and scarred skin to the surface and it flaked off <<< super gross, I was freaking out at first, but then underneath the big flakes, I could see fresh new skin, its much more even toned skin.  It really really really stung. Now that my face has tempered and healed, it no longer stings.

The price of these products are relatively affordable, you can buy them all at Whole Foods or other organic shops. It lasts almost 6 months for this amount of stuff. Plus, because I have braces, I do oil pulling with the coconut oil and one of the side benefits of it, is making your teeth whiter and brighter.  My results I’ve been really pleased with. Before I oil pulled, with my braces, my teeth seemed brittle and dull. so it could be a side benefit if you take on oil pulling too. it’s super quick morning and night.

All the best Bee!

fluffykaiju:  How long do you oil pull? I hear about It and googled and two different people said to swich oil for 20 mins. That sounds gross and way too time consuming. What’s your routine?

fluffykaiju:  Do you do this routine morning and night? Do you put foundation on after you moisturize?
