I bought my dress yesterday.
I am kind of surprised. It was the very first time I have ever tired on wedding dresses. I kept reading all the posts here on the dresses and thinking, "I don’t deserve to have a girlie girle dress". So, I was looking at Jcrew and Nordstrom for a dress, however the FH and I had talked about me getting a dress I could wear again. But every time I thought of it, my heart just sank. I don’t like to be high maintenance or needy. I didn’t want to say anything to him about this feeling of not deserving a great dress.
My mom passed away 16 years ago. I don’t plan on having a giant wedding or even inviting anyone. We have planned to marry in the most intimate and quiet way. Just the two of us in a foreign land, and to plan it all in 6 weeks. We are just days away from that being only 5 weeks.
Yesterday I met with the ring designer. He is going to match our bands to my antique 1930’s engagement ring. It was not too painful of a process, now we have to wait for the molding to be finished. Meanwhile, he has my engagement ring and will until next week, yep, a WHOLE WEEK.
I had a bunch of running around to do in Bend, OR yesterday. I needed to fix my bike tire and get new running shoe laces. I called my friend Sara, as we haven’t know each other long I didn’t want to take a bunch of her day but I thought coffee or a dog walk would be great. It’s part of the trouble with living in a town of 120 people. You get really lonely and you want to talk the nearest human ear off.
At lunch she talked about her wedding dress. I hadn’t seen it. I don’t know why I said it but I blurted out that I wanted to at least look at dresses before I ordered something online.
I was totally wowed with Sara’s helpfulness and even more with myself for actually having the courage to walk up those stairs to the store.
It was nearly the last dress I lefted off the rack and the second I tried on. It fit perfectly. Not one thing about it needs to be altered. And even without that, AMAZING, putting the dress on felt like heaven. It felt like this dress belonged on my body. I tried a few more on after that, but just looking at them on the rack and seeing the one dress hanging in a different corner, I had a hard time making myself put any others on.

Congratulations! That’s so exciting! And you definitely deserve to wear a beautiful dress, no two ways about that one.
Do we get to see pictures? 🙂
I actually didn’t take photos of me in the dress, but dang, I always thought my body was the problem and have for years been insecure when there was no reason. It is not my body or anyone elses body, it’s rather the dress. There are just some okay dresses, and then there is THE DRESS.
I got the perfect dress for me.
I am keeping it a secret from FH.
I hope he doesn’t peek in on this site.
It’s Maggie Sottero’s Bianca dress. I never in 1,000,001 years would have picked this dress from the photo. NEVER!!!!
But it feels like a dream, I had her lace me up in it twice. It is such a great build you do not need any support garments, no bra or anything else under it which is great, it feels so natural and buttery soft.
oh, and I got it in Alabaster.
I am still on cloud nine. I also know I did not get a killer deal or anything like that, but I did only take about an hour finding and trying it on and did not have to wait for it to be ordered…I got it straight from the racl. WOOHOO!!! dress and shoes are done. nearly 5 weeks to go.

Yay! Congratulations! Finding the perfect dress is amazing. 😀
If you are worred about not getting a great deal, or FH is upset that you bought something you can’t wear again, just remind him that you can always sell it after the wedding – Maggie dresses have a pretty high resale value.

You can most def get some of the money back after the wedding. It’s gorgeous!
And I don’t think your Fiance will have any issues once he sees you in it! Can’t wait to see pics! The hardest part is…if it’s just gonna be you two…gonna be kind of hard to hide it from him til the wedding day. Or are you gonna let him see?

he certainly doesn’t care how much I spent on the dress. I bought it and it is the best I feel about spending that much money on one item, ever!
I don’t if I will be able to sell it right away, I might want to live in it for a month or so 🙂
Just kidding, but wow, Maggie Sottero makes some amazing dresses. She is very thoughtful about details and construction.
I was just amazed at myself for getting exactly what I didn’t think would look good on me. But to my surprise, it looked great. Plus, I went in there with little make-up and a pony tail and I looked AMAZING. And I am not the kind of girl that normally thinks that of myself, but this dress, well, it didn’t wear me like I thought it would. I just fit with me and my disheveled look, which I plan on recreating. And as far as accessories, I don’t think it needs anything. I plan on wearing the diamond studs I always wear. and then my wedding ring eventually. But I think a great dress should be like this.
I wanted to wear a low veil at the nape of my head but now I am not sure that will look good. Any opinions?

I think a low veil will look fantastic with that dress. It’s so romantic, and I think a low veil conveys that kind of feeling as well.
I will say, though, that not everyone can pull off such a veil so give yourself the freedom to try on other styles too. The point is to find something in which *you* look beautiful, not an ensemble that looks beautiful *on you*. I think sometimes people miss that…but it sounds like you’re already feeling wonderful which is an amazing thing.

I certainly feel as though I AM wearing the dress and not the dress wearing me.
You have nailed it. A veil might look good, but might not. I have no hard and fast rules about the wedding whatsoever. We don’t have a clue WHERE we are getting married, I mean, we know WHAT country, we don’t know WHO will marry us, but we are working on it. I have no idea where I will be able to get ready but i do know that it will not take more than an hour and that includes a shower, this is the great thing about the dress. I looked amazing just out of jeans with my hair all over the place in a low pony. Mind you, I will be a little more creative with hair, but not much. The dress doesn’t need much and I clearly didn’t need much in it.
I might take to wearing dresses all the time if I could look that amazing. Just kidding. There is no way I could do what I do in a dress. But dang, if I feel half as amazing at my wedding as i did just trying the dress on, well, that is perfect enough.

Mizuno, that dress is AMAZING! I love the bodice and especially the crumb-catcher detail. I think alabaster is the perfect color choice, too. Like you, it only took me about an hour or so at the very first bridal shop to find my dress. :o)

Craftypants – LMAF, the crumb-catcher! hahaha, I laughed so hard when Nicole (owner of Bella Brides in Bend) told me it was called a crumb-catcher. Whatever it is, it really didn’t STAND OUT but rather added a little extra detail to make my B cup not seem non existant. Never in a million years would have picked this dress from a photo.
I am so glad that I am doing this only weeks before the "big" day or else I’d be sleeping in that dress and wearing it every day.
The FH has no idea what the dress looks like and Iso glad. However, he’s like to have a cow only when he lifts it, if I let him touch the bag. No cows about cost. We are actually having a pretty inexpensive wedding I think. The trip to Australia was planned last year. So, really I think our only big costs are my dress, the celebrant/and or venue, depending on how this works out, flowers, still need to look into that, and rings. We will eventually have parties. But we’ll do that as we have time. This Kuwait to Oregon romance makes logistics for a lot of things difficult.
Now I need to get with the hair program and find a florist. I also think I am going to have a smalled two person kind of wedding cake sent to our hotel in Adelaide so that it’s there for us when we arrive from Sydney. I can’t believe I am doing this in a country I have yet to visit. Crazy.
Craftypants, are you running the Keys100? just checking as I’ll be there.

Mizuno, I’d never even heard of it! I wonder how long it’s been around. It sounds really cool! Are you doing it as a relay, like Hood to Coast? Let me know if you need a cheerleader… I never need much of a reason for heading to the Keys! :o)
it is just like Hood to Coast, in fact these kind of relays are springing up all over the place.
My team is actually camping on Friday night and then we’ll be in Key West Saturday night. Bring friends?
I don’t actually know my team but we hooked up through facebook and I am very excited about a trip to FL. I’ve got two night in Miami which is also exciting. Let’s just say I don’t get out very often, I live in a town of 120. So this is a BIG treat.

congrats on the dress Mizuno! Its so beautiful – it will be stunning on you!
5.5 weeks and counting! 😉 good luck! were all here for ya!

Glad you’re doing it as a relay. I see there are 50- and 100-mile individual races, too. I can’t imagine running from Key Largo to Key West… that’s insane!!!
I’ll definitely talk to Fiance and see if he’s up for the drive. If you need recommendations for things to do while in town, just ask! :o)
