Yay for you! As someone who, as a kid, decided to play softball instead of soccer because of the amount of running, I think I know where you’re coming from. A few years ago, I wanted to get into running for getting into shape and losing weight purposes. My best friend and I registered for a 5K as a goal, and it definitely helps having the goal! The program that I used was the Couch to 5K Running Plan, and it was extremely helpful. I recommend it to friends all the time. Here’s the website:


What I like most about the plan is that it goes in baby steps to build your confidence and keeps you doing it, instead of jumping in too fast and discouraging you. I’d say the two things that worked the most for me to stay motivated was having an ally in my best friend to keep me going, and that the program is so manageable.
