- Wedding: June 2013
We just got back from a week in Philly leading up to the wedding, immediately followed by a week in Jamaica. I don’t know where to start…I think I’ll break this down into 3 parts…the week leading up to the wedding, the wedding itself and the honeymoon.
We left for Philly on Tuesday, June 11th and things went pretty smoothly (considering there was an explosion in another terminal of the Atlanta airport while we were there). Our 4 pieces of luggage and THE DRESS made it there in one piece. We checked into the Hyatt at the Bellevue (the reception site and what was to be our home for the week) and quickly hurried to City Hall (the famous Center City building with William Penn on top) for our marriage license. After that, we went to lunch at Reading Terminal Market. Darling Husband had a DiNic’s Roast Pork Sandwich and I had a Cheesesteak. I know, I know, the week of my wedding…just what I needed, a giant carb and meat-filled monstrosity…but it was awesome and I don’t regret it! That night we went to see one of DH’s GM’s perform in a comedy show and then had some drinks around town with more friends.
Wednesday and Thursday were a bit of a blur…we purchased items for, assembled and distributed the welcome bags. Our welcome bags were Philly-themed and included: Soft pretzels from Philly Pretzel Factory, Tastykakes (kandy kakes and butterscotch krimpets), Peanut Chews, Assorted Hershey’s kisses and mini bars, Herr’s Chips, bottled waters and an info sheet and thank you note. Thursday night, we had dinner with my mom and her boyfriend at Buddakan and that was amazeballs.
Friday was insane from beginning to end. My mom and I met my 2 MOH’s (my 2 bffs) and 2 BM’s (DH’s 2 sisters) at a nail salon (Nail Bar…yes, they serve mimosas!). From there, I took my bridal party to lunch at Rouge on Rittenhouse Square. After lunch, we went back to our respective hotels and got ready for the rehearsal. The final minutes before the rehearsal were pure insanity. Darling Husband was out all day running wedding-related errands with a couple of his GM’s (picking up tuxes, dropping off the wedding party gifts at the rehearsal dinner restaurant, etc…) As soon as he was ready (looking adorbs in his tan linen suit…we’ve been in the South too long!) we hopped in a cab with our boxes of items that needed to go to the church (St. Mark’s Episcopal).
The church rehearsal went very smoothly and our priest was so amazing. After we were all practiced-up, everyone headed to McGillin’s Olde Ale House for the rehearsal dinner. We had a private room upstairs with our own servers and bartenders. We played a slideshow that my aunt made and a “Nearlywed Game” video that Darling Husband (a comedian) had made for my shower…it got so many laughs at the shower that we decided it deserved another viewing. We handed out our parent and bridal party gifts, gave teary speeches and had a major blasty-time. Darling Husband walked me home and put me to bed and then went back to the party for a bit before heading to his own room for the night.
