my 7 week old ebf dd will not nap during the day. Here is our situation, help, advice or wine would be appreciated.
In the last 2 weeks our daughter went from being a great daytime sleeper to an absolute nightmare napper. She does sleep from about 10pm to 8am with only one wake up in her crib and is able to put herself to sleep with minimal help.
However during the day is another story. She will only sleep for 20-30 minutes if I’m lucky ( today she has slept for 15 and 10 in almost 5 hours). I have tried everything from the swing, bouncy chair, bassinet and crib. I have tried putting her down awake, sleepy, asleep for 5 minutes and asleep for 45 minutes and she either will wake up in 5 minutes or 20 minutes. We have done the mini CIO, shh/pat, pu/pd everything!! and to make it worse this is messing with our feeding 🙁
my midwife said she probably is just a short napper however if we are in the car seat or stroller she will sleep for up to 4 hours and if I let her sleep on me she will sleep for up to an hour.
I am going crazy and can’t get anything done as she is either awake all day and needs attention or is asleep on me. I feel so bad for her as I can tell she’s tired.
has anyone dealt with this and how did it turn out? Did you have to sleep train (at a later age) or did they grow out of it?

Pretty typical for 7 weeks. To each their own, but I think that’s beyond early to be doing any sort of cio. Look up the fourth trimester and happiest baby on the block 5″S’s”. 30-45 mins is considered a long nap before 6 months. Pretty sure I didn’t get anything accomplished except holding and feeding baby for at least 15 weeks! This time is so fleeting, try to enjoy all the baby snuggles and dependence. It will be gone before you know it!

Babies go through growth spurts and change up their routine on their own. Every few weeks you want to pull your hair out from sleep deprivation. It happens.
But heck no to the cio even whatever u call a mini cio. .7 weeks old wtf? I have no words that are even close to nice.

Have you tried any baby carriers? Like wraps, an ergo, mei tai, etc. Many moms swear by them. They can hold and snuggle the baby hands free so they can still get shifted done around the house.

I echo the PP about baby wearing. It’s how I got laundry etc done. My kids were bad sleepers- never liked to nap and would not sleep through the night. All babies are different- maybe yours just isn’t a long sleeper.

I guess “cio” isn’t the term I’m looking for. I mean letting her grizzle/cry for a couple of minutes when she wakes up suddenly to see if she’s actually awake or crying in her sleep before going in and picking her up.

If the only way she sleeps is if you’re holding her, then hold your baby. She needs the sleep and whatever needs to be done around the house can wait. My dd was the same way, and for the first couple months my house was a mess and we didn’t always have a home cooked meal, but our baby was happy and getting the sleep she needed. Also, have you tried putting her in the Rock N Play when she sleeps? A lot of babies do well in that.
