- Wedding: November 2015
So, my Fiance and I have been on quite the rollercoaster since we got engaged in May. We jumped on a beautiful North Shore venue right off the bat, but quickly realized that the costs were adding up to be more than we originally calculated, so a few weeks ago we cancelled the venue. My family owns a beautiful farm in South Dakota that was free as a venue, so we jumped on that…but after some discussion we realized it was going to be a lot of work to clean out all the farm buildings we’d want to use, plus the cost of rental equipment would be high too.
I spent a few weeks feeling ambivalent about the wedding planning process in general. I’ve never dreamed of my wedding, so I wasn’t sure what I really wanted.
Today, my Fiance and I decided to scrap all of our plans and have a small, intimate wedding with just our immediate family…on November 7th! We’d already been playing with the idea of getting legally married for insurance reasons, but I felt bad about keeping it a secret (as our actual wedding/reception was planned for September 2016) and didn’t think I could wait that long to make it official in front of our family and friends.
So now our date is November 7, 2015! My parents planned their wedding in 6 weeks, so this seems like a piece of cake to my mother. We’ve called most of our family, and miraculously almost all of them have said they can make it out in such short notice! 😀
I am so filled with excitement (it’ll be doubly exciting because my birthday is November 9th so it’s like an early birthday gift)! There’s so much to do and plan, and that’s my favorite part. I’m so happy we can finally get to the details (and Fiance is so happy that we only have to talk about weddings for two more months as opposed to 11 more months, haha. He wants to be married too, but he isn’t into parties as much).
Anyone have any encouragement for planning a wedding under such short notice? So far, I have the following:
1. My dress (needs alterations, but I found a place that will do them for me in less than a couple weeks time), shoes, slip, veil, bracelet
2. My bridesmaid dresses (also need alterations and will go to the same place I take my dress)
3. Thank you cards
4. An officiant (tentatively)
5. We have an engagement party planned for all our friends October 24. We are going to celebrate hard with them to make up for only inviting our immediately family to our actual wedding and reception.
That’s pretty much it (eep!). I have a few places in mind for our dinner/reception place, but I need to call tomorrow to make sure it isn’t already reserved. As of tomorrow, I’m planning to call the dinner place, make a few appointments for cake tastings, contact the dress tailor to make an appointment for an alteration, and search for a place to have the ceremony.
Any advice or tales from anyone who has also planned a wedding in such short notice? It feels so thrilling and daunting at the same time! 😀
