Just a quick hi.***ok not so quick after all** Baby Emi and I are doing great! 🙂
After being 5 days overdue, I drank some homemade wild raspberry tea before bed to bring on contractions, according to an old’s wive’s tale which may just have some truth to it! I went into early labor contractions around 1AM Saturday morning, but waited until 1pm to check in to the hospital because we wanted to labor at home for awhile. Also, we had to stop and pickup my mom from the airport first! She got on the plane from WA when I called her during the early morning contractions. Only 3 cm dialated and 2 minutes apart for 5 hours with no changes, so the hospital released me to labor at home (in utter pain) since I still wanted an all natural birth. *By the way, laboring in the warm shower was the highlight of my day!!* The baby’s head had turned down and stayed down so even though I was 2 min. apart I had to go home. At 10 pm, we came back again and this time they kept me. The nurse asked do you want the LABOR TUB room again, we said NO, we aren’t into that natural childbirthing anymore. HA!
We requested an epidural and it went completely smoothly…still contracting hours (over a day later) until 4AM Sunday morning when I started to FEEL the pain again. At 4:30 I called the nurse and I was completely dialated so I pushed and pushed and pushed every 2 minutes for 2 hours and 45 minutes. That’s 320 pushes, ladies….4 pushes @ every contraction holding for up to 10 seconds each! (You may need to check the math…no, don’t. Trust me, it was long and sore! Not, just pressure.) So the baby FINALLY came out great, super alert. When she was put on my stomach, I thought 3 things–ooh warm, bony and soo heavy! I think my first words were, I can’t believe it!! That’s amazing!!. Just had our first baby appt (our first outing–@ 4 days old) and she’s 49th percentile for weight which is just a relief to hear as a parent. Oh, she was born at 8lbs 3oz in case you were wondering. I lost 20 of 40 lbs gained already. I have no idea if that’s normal. Breastfeeding is going well right now. It was a little rough @ first when there was no milk coming and baby was learning to latch. We are pumping at the same time just b/c hubby was worried baby wasn’t getting enough nourishment at first but that will be done with when we see the lactation specialist on Monday. Ok..not so short after all but maybe now I can get on Wedding bee once or twice in the next week to respond to some things I left out.
For now, know that being a new parent for me, is painful, exhausting but sooo much fun I can barely sleep. And no, it’s not the baby crying keeping me UP…it’s this wild adventure of learning and loving that is keeping me going….ok, must rest even though I don’t feel like it.
(MrsDG–I totally get the baby nickname thing now! Lil’ Honey and Tit Bull were some of our first….many more to follow. ) Thanks for everyone’s support along the way to get us to this point. 😀
