I’m quite close to you (Boulder) and I don’t think either size will really stand out too much. Most people probably won’t know what moissanite is. If they do, it’s hard for most people to tell from afar and a lot of people really just won’t care (and I say this as someone who can usually tell between a diamond and a moissanite pretty easily).

8-8.5mm is around the equivalent of 2-2.5ct, which I would imagine is pretty common around these areas since there are a lot of wealthy people. I’ll be getting a 2.71ct so I’d personally choose the bigger size because of my own preferences. 🙂

This is my 8.5 round solitaire with a hidden halo from MoCo! My ring finger is 6.5 and the band is 1.8mm. I absolutely adore it. Go with the bigger stone!

I have worn every size carat imaginable in both a diamond and a moissanite.  And while I am a *huge* fan of moissanite everything the bee’s are mentioning are completely accurate points.  In photos no one would be able to tell a larger carat.  In person? quite the opposite.  The larger the moissanites are, the more glassy they look [still gorgeous, but very unlike a mined earth stone].  Since you’re only wondering about a .5mm difference, it won’t matter.  If you were going from an 8mm to a 10 or higher, I’d advise against it.
