After just breaking in to the top 100 (and after wanting to marry this man for over a year!) he made all of my dreams come true lasst night with a perfect proposal at home. Sunday nights are our nights to unwind together (and a tradition we started looking forward to when we were LD)…we also played a lot of games of 20 questions while we were living apart, and so he recreated that, with the “bonus” question being if I would marry him. While the ring is amazing (and it is, I can’t stop staring!), more than anything I am beyond happy to get to spend the rest of my life with someone who truly is my best friend, my favorite comedian and my rock.
Waiting at times was awful. I like to be in control, to have a plan and to think 10 steps ahead. And, knowing that I was ready and he needed more time was sometimes heartbreaking (he’s also 5.5 years younger than me). But, I learned a lot during that rollercoaster. I learned that I trust him completely. I learned that he knew how to listen to me, but also how to stay true to himself. I knew that when he asked the question, he would do so because his heart was so sure and he was ready. I learned to compromise. I often didn’t like it. Hearing about other engagements was tough. But, I know that ultimately it made us stronger and he was worth it. I waited 31 years to find him, and another almost three to get engaged and I’m so glad I waited for him. So, to my fellow bees who are struggling, hang in there. It’s worth it.
And well, here’s the beautiful ring he designed.
