I’ve heard it is more and more common to serve late night hor d’ouerves…I like the name after-tizers for them though, i just heard that the other day.
Anyways, I’m wondering how many people are doing after-tizers at their wedding and what you’re serving? I think we will because we need to hit our minimum for food anyways and have a little extra. I just don’t know if we should go for something sweet like a chocolate fountain since there will already be cake or something casual (pizza is a choice on our menue) or more traditional hor d’oeurves (shrimp, rangoon, etc). We will have pre dinner hor d’ouerves as well so will be having traditional hor d’oeurves then.

I love this idea. We’re already having a late evening appetizer buffet (starting at 8:30) so we’re not going to do this, but I think it’s an awesome idea. I like the idea of classy bar foods like sliders. I’d definitely go for something savory/salty rather than sweet since you’ll already have served cake.

We’re not doing hor d’oeurves but will have an outside caterer come in to do LA’s famous bacon-wrapped street hotdogs at 11:30pm. It’s hearty and greasy for all the alcohol that will be consumed at our wedding.

Of all the weddings I’ve done this year, only two brides did “aftertizers.” However, both time it was a HUGE hit!
One just had pizzas delivered from the local pizza joint, and everyone devoured them. The other had sliders and french fries, and people attached those, too.
It’s mostly for the younger crowd, obviously, as “pre-game” for more drinking at the bars later 🙂
As a guest, I prefer pizza just because it’s great for diversity in case there are vegetarians on the guest list.

We are doing mini cheesesteaks. It’s totally a Philly thing! After the evening we have planned, I think the snack will be a much appreciated treat!

I’m a waiting bee, but SO is behind the idea of a nacho bar.
@mcnetn3: LOVE the idea of s’mores!

if we have room in our budget, i’d love to do this. i agree that you should do something savory….i think that when people have been drinking and dancing a lot, they usually crave salty things. pizza and sliders are both great suggestions and as a guest i’d be excited to see either of those. is there any food/snack associated with the area you’re getting married in? i love the idea of cheesesteaks for a philly wedding! we’re getting married in maryland, i wish we could serve everyone crabcakes as a late night snack!

Love it… I totally agree with the other posts, you gotta go with something that is bit of a “guilty pleasure”. One of those food items that you crave later in the night but don’t usually indulge in! 🙂

Sliders are a great idea, our caterer does not have them listed but I think they would make them if we asked, they said they are flexible with adding items. My Fiance loved that idea. They have french fry martinis, basically just ketchup at the bottom of the martini glass filled with fries so that could be fun in addition to sliders.
I love the nacho bar idea but my Fiance does not like nacho cheese at all or the smell of it and I want something he will eat too…too bad because that would’ve been a huge hit.
Smores would’ve been awesome if we picked the downstairs room in our venue, it walks out on to a patio area and we could’ve set up a little fire pit! O well, the upstairs is much nicer.
We are getting married in WI. So cheese (cheese curds maybe) or brats are things popular in our area…I don’t know if I want to do brats though, it’s not so much a snacky thing as another full meal.

We are doing sweet and savoury.
We’ll have a cake buffet with eight different flavours of cake (in lieu of a wedding cake). And we’re also having pizza delivered, which our venue will serve on nice silver trays.
It should taste really yummy after a couple drinks and lots of dancing!

We served passed s’mores at 11:00. Reception ended at 11:30. It was definitely a hit for relatively little money spent. We also put it on the menu so that people knew it was coming (a bribe to stick around?).

@hergreenapples- I LOVE the cake buffet idea. That sounds awesome and with the pizze on the side would be great! I’m going to look into that =)
