Most boutonnieres are attached with straight pins. If you want to use a safety type pin, I would get corasge pins from the hobby shop and wire them in like this:

If you are worried about the exposed points of the straight pins, just get a pink pearl or art gum eraser. Cut it into little pieces and include some with the box of boutonnieres.

 After the bout is pinned in place, the guys can cover the tip with a piece of the eraser. It’s not visible on the underside of the lapel, covers  the sharp point and keeps the bout form accidentally falling off.

@julies1949: good idea!

we ended up just using straight pins – but if julies1949 idea doesnt work maybe try super glue? its not as bulky as hot glue

@bells: check out the jewelry department of wal-mart or the craft store.  They have these neat little pins with a flat back to it.  Kinda like the kind used for name badges.  Wal-Mart has them for 2.97 for around 150 or 200 (can’t remember the exact number, it was WAY more than I needed, lol).

I’d suggest going that route because it would lay FLAT and also have the little saftey-latch thingy you get with jewelry pins.
