@lia22:  I agree completely. Having openly gay leaders would really be the step forward this organization needs to promote true equality. Just because a leader is gay doesn’t make it any more or less likely that they would behave inappropriately with the boys than if they were a straight leader.

The Boyscouts are bigots. They are allowing gay boyscouts in because of all the social media bashing them for their decisions to (originally) ban gay scouts.

If I ever have a son, my child will not be aligned with this organization. This is an all or nothing deal, and I think they’re doing it just because they want to media and the pressure to go away. I hope it doesn’t. Gay leaders can be just as fantastic as straight leaders.

Boyscouts are supposed to be about teamwork, companionship, tolerance, but this just furthers the gap between all of those fundamental things.

@Hyperventilate:  Legit, when we found out we were having a boy the thoughts that came into my head in order:

1. Crap, now I’m going to have to make a decision on circumcision.

2. Crap, the Boy Scouts better get their shit together because I don’t think we have any generic “Adventure Scout” troop in these parts.

3. Yaaaay – a boy!

I think they could learn quite a bit from Scouts.  Is there any discussion between the 2 groups?

This entire way of thinking is so ass backwards. And as much as everyone tries to fight it, it will change (for the good, as in equality). Just like rights for African Americans, etc. Someday, hopefully, our kids kids will look back at this day and think “What the hell was their problem? Where they stupid?” and we can rest easy knowing that we were ahead of the cruve already, and did not support this idiotic way of thinking.

Agree with AB Bride:  Scouts Canada certainly has a more welcoming policy to members of the Gay Community.

I am guessing that somehow the Boy Scouts of America were reluctant to include boy members because they thought that “gayness” could be caught (seriously back @ss thinking)

And now I am guessing they don’t want Gay Adults because they are afraid that the Leaders will influence or worse prey upon the Youth Members

There is a name for that be it a Male Leader sexually preying on a Child… or a Female Leader (do they have those in the US Boy Scouts ?) sexually preying on a Child

It is called PEDOPHILE… plain & simple and a criminal offence.

Honestly, I think this ruling just shows how back-woods in thought Boy Scouts of America is (sad)

And another example where the USA needs to step up to the plate, and join the 21st Century where a lot of the rest of the world is now living in true freedom

I find it all ridiculous. Gay == pedophile and actually, from my understanding of the research, more molestors are straight men! My cousin is working on his eagle and his dad is a regional leader person (unsure the real title?) and he knows some of the scout dads and their “close family friends” are…. Not just friends, but he is not about to call anyone out on that! Those boys need their dads involved just like anyone else.
