Please please get a contract of some sort. I dont have one that I can show you but I strongly suggest getting a contract with a date, price, and other things that they are providing. Since it will be outside – will there be a plan in case of incliment weather? Also what if something else happens that forces you to cancel or change the date of the wedding – will you be able to recoup the money you put in a deposit? I hope some others who have one can help because I think contracts are very important!
Get a contract! SOOOO important! Make sure to include everything PP said plus something on them having to hold up their end of the deal. Talk to them about it and get some signatures before sending in your deposit.
Get a contract or don’t do it there. It can really come back to bite you in the butt when it is your word against theirs, especially if there are certain arrangements and agreements you are adamant on having.
I knew I should have one but I just don’t really know what to write! I should also mention that they are not providing food or anything. Pretty much we are doing everything including bringing in caterers and alcohol, they are really only responsible for driving the boat. When I asked him how much the deposit was his response was ‘a couple hundred dollars’; is that $200? or $300? I should also mention that it is a national landmark and non-profit organization.
I completely understand what you’re saying. We’re having our reception at a small country club in my hometown because I liked the feel of a place that doesn’t do a lot of weddings, I think it’s more personal. However, when they told me they don’t do contracts or deposits right away, I almost freaked. They set we’d discuss a deposit and contract once we started working with the chef about six months before the wedding. I did ask for a letter of confirmation, though, and they were able to give that to me, so maybe you can try that as well? It’s just a letter from the general manager on the country club’s letterhead that says they’ve reserved the date for our wedding. I know it’s not "ideal", but at least it’s something. So maybe you can suggest that to them. Good luck!
If you want a copy of the letter of confirmation so that you can draft something, I can definitely send it to you, just send me a PM so I remember. Thanks!
