I think we’re planning to make a donation to the local food bank, but will give each of our guests a cookie with a note explaining that we’ve made a donation.

I really like the token system that two bees (including Ms. Bunny–I forgot who the other one was) talked about earlier this week.

Ah that’s so cool doctorgirl – I actually am on the advisory board for Kiva!  They are really doing amazing work…

Out of curiosity, are you going to decide in advance what projects to donate to?  It might be nice to let guests know that…though I also think both Kiva and Donor’s Choose are narrowly focused enough it’s not a big deal.

The wedding I just went to had a small card tucked into the napkin saying to which charities they made donations.   I thought that was a nice way to do it.  And the token idea is super cool…though I’ll admit there’s a good chance I’d be really confused without clear instructions (just a heads up in case you have similarly stunted guests).  Stellar atmospheres, I can handle.  Following straightforward instructions after a glass of wine or two, not so much 🙂

Love the tokens – I’d just be sure the place where they "vote" is in a place of your reception that people will pass by it…if they have to go out of their way to do it, they may not. I was at a wedding recently where I KNEW the bride was doing this and I still almost didn’t drop my card in because the boxes were in another room!

If you saw my recent post, we’re attaching cards to our granola favor sharing that we made a donation 🙂 Easy peasy.

I really liked the token idea, as well as Stiletto’s idea with the granola (so there’s a little something, too!).  I’m tossing this idea around – my fiance is epileptic, so we’d love to donate to our local epilespy foundation, but we also want to do a small actual favor, so we’re unsure how to go about it.  Maybe something in the program? Hmm.

@ Doctorgirl, did you see Mrs. Taffy’s post about her token system for favors?

The Taffy Favors

Very cool idea.

@Mr. Bee–I didn’t know you were on the board for Kiva.  What a great organization.  Instead of exchanging Christmas gifts last year, my sister and I both made a contribution together.  We looked through the site together and found a wonderful woman to sponsor.

We have Kate Aspen’s In favor of a cure picture frames and a percentage of the sale goes to the Breast Cancer Youth Coalition and for every gift bought online from our Bed Bath & Beyond a percentage goes to the Susan G Koman foundation.

I too was unsure of how to let our guests know and I turned to the bees and got these suggestions my favorite was alternating menu/donation cards at the tables.  I’m also taking the suggestion of another bee and adding the information to our wedding website to encourage guests to purchase from our wedding registry online.

I’m glad you found the tokens, Doctorgirl! 🙂  You’ll have to let us know how it works out when you use them.
