The price depends on the kind of hydrangea you want, I think.  Have you tried fiftyflowers.com for real ones?

I found the best price on real hyndrangeas at sam’s club online, they have blue and white – all great reviews.

I’ve HEARD (mind you – not my personal experiences – but others) that Sam’s is good for simple flowers like hydrangeas. I wouldnt trust them for sensitive flowers (plumeria) or rare ones. But I think for something as readily available as hydrengeas, I think you are good, but maybe do a test drive.  Order a small batch first and see how it goes.

How far in advance should you order cut flowers for the wedding day? I can’t seem to find a generally agreed upon time frame, but I’m hoping the answer is a little earlier than the afternoon before!

You can try looking at Trader Joe’s, which carries huge pots of various colored hydrangreas for about $7-8 each!   Trader Joe’s actually has a pretty good floral selection of plants and flowers year-round and are willing to help you put in a large order if you ask the manager.  My friend actually ordered 30 beautiful orhids from Trader Joe’s as centerpieces for her wedding and the manager helped her put in a special order request which arrived 2 days before her wedding and they even helped her store it in their refrigerated storage room until she picked them up!

i’ve heard that if you visit a flower mart you can get a really good deal on hydrangeas. i’m having the same dilemma as you (silk vs real).  The plus side about the silk is you don’t have to worry about them.  With real ones i’d have to worry about who would transport them to our venue and whatnot. however, my friend said real ones were even cheaper than silk! she said the flower mart has a going rate of about $5 for 3 stems! so now i’m back to square one… real or fake…

silk flowers go on sale often at Hobby Lobby & Joann’s for 50% off, so I would compare to that price
