They inject a catheter and then put saline in your uterus and do an ultrasound.  It wasn’t any worse than any other procedure for me.  On a pain scale, I’d give it a 2.

If its in your RE’s office, it should be 10-15min procedure and the pain scale is minimal in comparison to the HSG.  I didn’t have a hysto but I did have a saline sonogram which my RE indicated its the same pain level.

A hysteroscopy is when you are put under general anesthesia and a scope is placed inside your uterus. They are generally very quick (<30 min) and you don’t know any of what’s going on. You may have a little light cramping afterward but that should be it. Good luck with everything.

@TiffanyBlue91011:  I don’t know anybody who was put under for the procedure. I wasn’t. I was just prescribed one valium to take 30 minutes beforehand and most women I’ve talked to were just told to take advil before. But none that I know were put under.

OP, it hurt for me for about one minute. (Cramping) My Darling Husband was with me and I just squeezed his hand..hard! It was fascinating to see the inside of my uterus on the screen. My Darling Husband said it looked like a “pink cave”. LOL

Good luck to you!!!

@Jenn23:  All of the doctors in our area do them under general. I guess it’s a regional thing. None of them do it in their office because of the risk that they could perforate the uterus with the scope. That would require an immediate hysterectomy and I have seen it happen.  Probably too risky for an office procedure, IMO.  If she will possibly have to have a biopsy I would guess/hope that she would be put to sleep. I wouldn’t be letting someone burn anything out of my uterus if they gave me 10 Valium, lol.

I’ve had one and it was no big deal. Felt like a PAP to me, but then again I am used to REs and their scopes, tubes, weenie wands and what not πŸ˜€ I didn’t take the Valium, just the Motrin and it was a piece of cake.

Just remind yourself it is good practice for when you get pregnant and you have various OBs and nurses all up in your lady business πŸ™‚

Wow, hadn’t heard of being put under for it. Interesting! Well, then you don’t have to worry about feeling any discomfort or pain at all! πŸ™‚  Good luck! I worked with my RE for almost 2 years and have been through quite a bit (IVF in January to finally get pregnant) so if you have any questions, let me know!! πŸ™‚

I just had an operative hysteroscopy two weeks ago for uterine scarring.  I was walking around find afterwards.  Even was able to go w/ my sister to pick up my meds and then play w/ my kiddies two hours later.  I was extremely tired and was in bed by 8.  Although I took 2 days off, I was able to take care of myself the 2nd day.  Cramping during the night but the drugs really helped.  Now I am still having headaches from the estrogen but its a small sacrifice.

@smokingpoint:  Sorry I am just now getting back on here.  I am so sorry,I did not mean to scare you but a hysteroscopy is a surgery, and I didn’t want you going in thinking it wasn’t a big deal, u know. I think your Dr is a wise person for putting you under general because a lot of docs make their pts believe things aren’t a big deal, until something happens.  Again, I’m sorry for scaring you and I hope it goes well for you. I’m sure you will do fine. πŸ™‚ :hugs:
