I got Mr. Bee one for his birthday (the first generation).  He used it like crazy until it broke. They replaced it for free but he hasn’t used it as much since.

I’ve given it as a gift to someone else as well —  everyone that has one seems to love it — it’s an awesome gift!

Does he buy a lot of books?  If so, I would give it to him as soon as possible because otherwise he will end up throwing those books away someday!  Once you get a Kindle, you just stop buying physical books…

It’s brilliant!  You can give it along with a gift card, so he can start buying books right away!

Btw, make sure he has a bag or pants that he can stick it in.  I stopped using mine because I lost my cargo pants… so now I’m constantly afraid I’ll lose it.

I got my husband a Kindle as his wedding present (we’re both huge technology geeks).  He loves it so much.  It’s great if you travel a lot, which we do, since our families live 800 miles away. My husband is a grad student, and he can read PDF files and books on the kindle, so it’s a lifesaver for him– he doesn’t have to haul books all over the place anymore, and he doesn’t have piles of printed papers all over the living room ๐Ÿ™‚

We’ve been looking into getting one, too.  Here is a partial list of our pros for getting the Kindle:

eco-friendly

saves space

over span of use, will work out to be more cost-effective than buying paper books (we spend about $100 on books every month)

some books can be downloaded for free (i think it’s mostly classics right now, but the selection will expand as it becomes more popular)

more convenient for traveling/carrying with you and with potential to have more variety in books with you all the time

also eliminates the need for newspaper and magazine subscriptions since you can just download the latest edition

convenience of finding/buying books (it only takes a minute or two to download after your purchase)

Our cons list is basically that there isn’t a huge selection database right now.  That’s it.  And that will even change as more people start to buy/use the Kindle.  I think we’re going to wait until Christmas to buy one, but the new version of the Kindle is really cool and has a ton of neat options.  I can’t wait!

Edit:  They also sell snazzy holders to keep your Kindle in nice condition.

I think that’s a great idea!  If he’s anything like my husband he’ll have just as much fun going over the details of the Kindle (like processing speed, storage, features, etc…) as he would with the Kindle physically in his hands.  ๐Ÿ™‚

I wouldn’t want a printout… I would want the actual item in my hands!  But I’m probably weird like that… a lot of guys love to review the specs of their computing devices!

See, I’m the opposite. I like the feel of a good book or magazine or newspaper in my hands. I’m not quite a Kindle person, I guess. But if he likes techy-things, go for it!

@august15bride – Seriously, I was the same way…  definitely borrow a friend’s for a day or two and try it out!

Great to hear! One of my coworkers got a kindle and LOVED it- couldn’t stop raving about it- but sadly, it fell out of his laptop bag and so he lost it ๐Ÿ™

My Fiance had one and was CRAZY about it. He absolutely loved the thing, and he actually saved money bc many of the books are cheaper.  It was pretty awesome, I must say.  But he lost it on a job site somehow.  Someone apparently found it because they returned it to Amazon and they credited his account for it!  He hasn’t bought a replacement yet, but he really misses having one around.
