Good morning bees!
Recently I posted and asked if anyone had been on Alesse after my dr prescibed it to me. I was on it for only a week and it had made a ton of my hair fall out. Apparently it’s a side effect of that pill. Scary considering I am getting married in a few short months. So, the dr is switching me to Othro-TriCyclen. It is less likely to make my hair fall out. I know this pill has been around a while. Does anyone have any experience on it? Anyone gain or lose weight on it?

@AlmostHisWife: I am off the pill now, but I loved Ortho Tri-Cyclen! I was on it (and its fellow generic brands) for a long time. No crazy weight gain or loss for me, and I felt pretty stable. Sorry to hear your current pill is making your hair fall out – yikes!

I’ve been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for a little over 2 years now. I love it. My hair definitely didn’t fall out – that’s horrible! I also didn’t gain any weight from it. It cut back PMS cramps dramatically and I have lighter periods. Never had an issue with spotting, super regular (almost to the hour) cycle, and it’s also calmed my mood swings. I wasn’t a very pleasant person to be around during that time of the month before I went on it.

thanks! I am hoping I have a good experience like you guys have! 🙂

I’ve been on it for about 3 years now. Generally all good things to say. It has helped big time with my cramps. I haven’t had any problems.

I’ve been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for ten years. I’ve had no side effects at all. I did a one year experiment in 2010 with Seasonique, and I had hair loss and excruciating cramps. Seasonique and Alesse both contain levonorgestrel as their progestin.
Norgestimate, the progestin in OTC and OTClo, is a third generation progestin. The third and fourth generation progestins (norgestimate, desogestrel, and drospirenone) tend to have fewer side effects. This is actually a good article about it.

I have been on the generic version of it for about 2 years and I couldn’t be happier. I haven’t had any weird side effects like I have had on other birth control medications. Everyone is different though. I personally find that this is the best one I have been on.

I’ve been on it for almost 10 years now, and did not notice any side effects at all when I first went on it. A couple years ago, I went off of it for a few months, and noticed that my skin got really oily and I had some acne, so I’m thinking it probably did help my skin and I just didn’t notice it when I first went on the pill.

I was on Ortho Tricyclen Lo for about 3 years with no side effects before I went to Seasonique Lo.

I’ve been on OTC for over four years. No problems, although it doesn’t do shit for my acne lol. I have no cramps, no PMS, a very light, very regular, 3-day period.

@AlmostHisWife: I just tried ortho last month and I had to stop taking it after 3 days!! I got horrible, HORRIBLE migraines. Like I couldn’t go to class and SO had to stay home from work to watch my daughter because I could not be around any light or noise. I stopped taking it and the next day was 100% fine. I decided to take a break from birth control and I feel amazing. I dropped 20 lbs last month.

Thanks for the replies! I used to suffer from terrible migraines, so hopefully this won’t cause me to have any. I am happy to see that for the most part, no one really had any major side effects (minus the migranes). Hopefully I will be lucky with this pill as well!

i was on ortho tri cyclen for around 8 years and i had no side effects with it. The only issue i came across was if you want to skip your period for whatever reason you may have issues since the pills are in phases insread of steady hormones throughout the pack. I tried to skip it and it delayed my period for a week but then i had a light period for a month straight. another time i tried to skip it it just got delayed a few days and again i bled for a few weeks straight. i’ve since switched to Levora which is a steady hormone everyday of the pack and i take it like seasonique and get one period every 3 months (i’ve also gone four months on purpose) with no side effects either. I’ve been on levora for about 3 years.
