Bridal sizes are substantially smaller.  I wear a street size 4, and my dress is a 12.  Plus, from what I’ve read (my dress isn’t lace), you can take dresses in like that, it’s the letting them out where there’s a problem.

Wedding dresses run 2 sizes up than street sizes (if your an 8 street size your a 12 in bridal). My dress has a lace bodice and there will be no problem sizing it down (almost 5 inches in). I think alteration of lace gowns is a big worry mostly in the hem.

I wear a street size 2-4 and my dress is a size 9. I agree with abbie017.

I am a size 6/8 and my dress is a size 12…there is much less of a problem taking the dress in, and I do think, with a good seamstress, anything can be done!

I wear a street size 2/4 and haven’t gotten a dress yet.  I have no clue at what size to even begin looking!  Ugh.

My jean size is a size 11 and I had to order a size 20 dress!! I had a tiered lace pattern (just in sections, it wasn’t entirely lace) and it was taken in with absolutely no issues, hope this helped!

@Miltie:  Do you have a pic of the gown maybe someone else has experience with taking it in.

I dont see to many issues with that dress if it needs alterations but you can always call your bridal salon and ask especially if they have on site alterations.

you will be fine.. even with it being “3” sizes.. all the PP were 100% correct when you order your gown roughly 2 sizes bigger.. i worked in bridal for many years..  i was married before and i ordered a 12 was a 8 at the time- i lost a TON of weight and was a size 6 by the wedding-my seamstress had her work cut out but it was done! just make sure you have plenty of time for a few fitings not just one!

@Miltie:  Yeah, I think you’ll be fine.  I’m the same way with the three different sizes, too (8 in waist, 10 in bust, 12 in hips), so they ordered the 12 and are just taking it in everywhere.  It’ll probably take a couple fittings to get it right, but no biggie!  Congrats on your registry, btw!  It’s fun!
