Anyone else have one? And dreading breaking the habit?
Anyone else have one? And dreading breaking the habit?
Our little guy was sucking his thumb in his 20 wk ultrasound, so we’ll see how things work out after he’s born. Kind of funny though– his mom and I are looking at the ultrasound screen seeing him suck his thumb and we both get teary and smile because it’s so dang cute. DH’s response: “Is this normal? Is this a habit we’re going to have to break later?” (“Yes dear, I’m going to reach right in there and yank his thumb out of his mouth this instant.” *eye roll*)
I wished she would have taken the thumb or binky… but no such luck!
@Mrs. DG: I’d prefer the pacifier over his thumb, so much so that we try to interest him in it when we catch him with his thumb in his mouth. We figure it’s a lot easier to get rid of a pacifier than a thumb.
No babies for me but I know when I was bitty, my parents put bitter apple or hot sauce on my thumb, I didn’t suck it much after that!
I was sucking my thumb in one of the sonograms… and I kept on until I was eight years old. If the wants to suck his/her thumb, it’s going to happen, no matter what.
My daughter has sucked her thumb ever since it formed in-utero. I have tried everything to break that habit and nothing works. I will post back in a few years and let you know at what age we managed to kick the habit and what worked LOL.
umm. I sucked my thumb until i was thirteen. That thumb is even shorter than the other because of it now!
My mum did everything to get me to stop. I seem to remember mustard powder and cayenne being rubbed on it. My poor mudder!
@Mollytov: The only reason I stopped is because I wanted to grow my nails out long like the other girls in my class did.
@helenberrycrunch: i have fond memories of wrapping my fore finger over my nose, thumb stuck deep in my mouth while watching The Wonder Years …
So don’t worry ladies! Your kids will stop before prom!
@Mollytov: I did the finger around the nose thing, too!!
