@audylee:  I had a dress custom made by Wonderxue! I gave her photos of what I wanted (photos of the bodice, skirt, silhouette) and she got on it right away. She asked for $325 including shipping. I got the dress about one month after ordering.

I asked for a tea-length wedding dress with a french lace-overlayed bodice, lace back with covered buttons, cap sleeves, and a tulle skirt.

Here is the image I sent to her:

And these are the photos she showed me mid-production: (I ended up asking for more tulle–she added 3 more layers, then sent the completed dress to me without taking photos of the final product)

What it looked like in person:

OVERALL THOUGHTS:– The dress was very well made and the style closely matched my photos/diagrams.

–The production time was surprisingly quick!

–She doesn’t speak English that well so you have to be very very clear and simple in your correspondence with her

–The measurements she requested were a bit of a challenge and required some googling (I wasn’t familiar with all of the seamstress terms she used e.g. “hollow to hem”

–The fit was not perfect on me (not sure if this is due to an error in my own measurements –even if i double-checked at least a hundred times–or if it was just a mistake on her part), the back lace was loose and sagged a bit awkwardly

— She communicates with you frequently which was really helpful, and shows you photos of the fabrics before she starts (I asked for them)

SO overall would I recommend her?

—-While she clearly has a lot of experience in dressmaking, I would only order from her if you are 100% positive that the dress you order will flatter your body type. In other words, try on dresses at shops until you find one that you absolutely LOVE. take photos of it and then use that as your model for showing her. I made the mistake of not trying a similar dress on my own body; I ended up deciding that I will NOT wear this dress on my wedding day because I changed my mind about wearing tea length (actually I’m selling it on the classifieds board now). I thought the dress made me look short, fat and stubby  (I’m 5’3″ / 33-25-34). This was my fault though because I was overconfident that this style of dress would suit me!! D’oh.

—-Also, be ready for the possibility of having to do alterations after you receive it because it might not fit perfectly. (I was sure I gave exact measurements, and it still was not quite right)

Anyway, this is just one girl’s experience with the shop! I’m sure other people have had different experiences with her. 🙂

I hope this helps!

Good luck on your decision!!

Just thought I’d bump this up because I am considering Wonderxue / Yuan Cheng but haven’t found very many reviews.  Anyone else out there had any experiences with her?

I think her backless lace work is lovely..

I was curious about her too.  I have seen this dress in her shop, and am wondering if anyone has ever had it made (by her, or anyone else).  It’s gorgeous, I want to see a “real” version of it though!

Hey — I ended up going with Fabulous U.  I think I actually scared off Wonderxue :-/ I thought her work seemed lovely, but not so much her PR. I offered to help draft her policy section on Etsy and build a simple website for her but she never replied. Haha. I wasn’t even asking for a discount.. I just genuinely wanted to help her out! She seemed very nice on email.

@tanyaaabee:  Hi! Could you link the fabulous U store? I am also considering Wonderxue, but still hesitant about it :/

Thanks

I had an AWFUL experience with her. She promised to deliver my dress in April, repeatedly move it back but now says taht she can’t make my dress because she got too busy!!! It’s too late for me to go to a bridal boutique to buy a dress because I wasted 3 months waiting for her. I wouldn’t recommend her. She may make beautiful dresses for cheap, but her words can’t be trusted. She has issues committing to orders.

@audylee:  i got engaged at the end of february.  we wanted a october 2013 wedding date so the first order of business was booking a place.  in march i started looking at dresses.

first place i went said 8 months to order but they could pull it off if i ordered that day.

2nd place i went said 3 months.

3rd place i went, where i ordered my dress said 5 months.  so the dress should come in around august and i will have time for my fittings.

from engagement day to wedding day is just under 8 months.  i did feel a little stressed right in the beginning, but this is the perfect amount of time for me to plan.

also think outside the box, jcrew, ann taylor, etc have wedding dresses.

good luck.

A pic of my dress if you want a real-life example of wonderxue’s work…

I ordered mine in November last year and it took exactly a month between ordering and dispatch which was fine for me. However judging by what some other bees are saying she might be busier now – perhaps too busy.

My dress only cost me $184.00 USD inc. postage – yes extremely cheap, which is why I ordered from her. It was right for me and I’m happy with it (so is my wallet), but quality-wise, you get what you pay for. It will need some alterations and I still need to add an extra petticoat under the skirt as the tulle that was included isn’t big enough for me.

Good luck bees. x

WONDERXUE REVIEW:

DON’T DO IT — BEWARE OF THIS SELLER.

SHE DOES NOT DELIVER DRESSES ON TIME AND IS NOT HONEST.

MY DRESS NEVER ARRIVED.  SHE CLOSED HER SHOP DOWN ON ETSY WITHOUT WARNING AND WITHOUT REFUNDING. SHE DID THE SAME THING LAST YEAR.

WHEN HER SITE IS UP, SHE PRESSURES CUSTOMERS TO REMOVE NEGATIVE REVIEWS IN ORDER TO GET A REFUND.  THE POSITIVE REVIEWS ARE MISLEADING.

TRUST ME ON THIS ONE AND FIND ANOTHER DRESSMAKER ON ETSY.  DON’T PUT YOURSELF THROUGH THE STRESS.

@Amidalage:  I just have to say that this really suprises me. I got my dress from her and had a great experience. Ordered in September and recieved in November.  I did wait twice as long as she said but I knew that going in from reading the reviews. I’m really just shocked that this is the same person you’re talking about. I’m certainly glad I got mine before all this happened.
