I live in the Toronto area and my best friend lives just outside of Philly. We usually only see eachother once a year and I go to her place or she comes to mine. We want to do a quick get together in April just to catch up for a weekend and have a girls weekend away from BOTH of our homes, and are hoping to meet in between.
Is there anywhere in between those two cities that would be fun but not too expensive??? I looked on a map but I really don’t know that area at all and neither does she (NW of her). A college town would be perfect, or somewhere with some stuff to do, a decent hotel to stay at and a few good bars/pubs/restaurants. Safe. 4 or so hours of driving each would be great. And cheap-ish – we’re trying to keep this as budget friendly as possible!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

@noopnoop: I don’t have a lot of suggestions, but Syracuse is about 4 to 4 1/2 hours from both areas. It’s a college town with lots of restaurants.
This may help:

Buffalo is so much closer to me than to her, I’d feel bad 🙁
Syracuse has some good potential! I wonder how far it is from Philly. Binghamton looks to be smack dab in the middle but I’ve never heard of it before??

What about Ithaca, NY? It’s about 4 hours from Philly, don’t know about how far from Toronto. But there’s a college there so there’s probably some stuff to do.

Yeah, I thought of Syracuse.

I second the Ithaca recommendation. It’s a beautiful town (have been there a few times to go skiing) and there are two colleges, Cornell and Ithica. Syracuse also would be fun!

There are lots of places to stay and things to do in Syracuse. You may be better off staying outside of the city as there are some bad areas in Syracuse. There are lots of bars and also a VERY large mall in the syracuse area.
I’ve never vistied Binghamton but I believe it is a college like area, there is a school there.

You should both meet in the Finger Lakes area and do some wine tasting!

I went to college in Syracuse, and the hotels there aren’t great outside of the Sheraton that is literally on campus. That being said, the Sheraton that is on campus was recently upgraded and not terribly pricey. Plus, if you’re there in March you can try and catch a basketball game at “The Dome”, and all of the local bars/restaurants on marshall street are literally blocks away.
The buses can be a little, um, scary, so you may want to stick to driving if you go downtown to the museums/theater/etc. If you do stay outside of Syracuse, Cazenovia lake is really pretty and there are loads of B&B’s.

I vote Ithaca! It is a college town, so bars and restaurants, lots of hotels/motels/B&B’s also wineries and a few breweries! It’s a great area for hiking as well! Gorgeous scenery year round!
