Hi, bees. I haven’t gotten very far in planning, though it seems as though things are slowly starting to come together. It looks like we’ll be married at the equestrian trailhead at our local State Park where we went on our first ride, followed by either a BBQ reception or a hosted dinner at one of the area’s Baswue restaurants. We’re looking at either the first or second weekend in October.
So I’ve begun looking at dresses again. I would REALLY love champagne taffeta. But I simply have not been able to find it. The dress that is currently my top choice is – brown… Brown. I love it, and feel amazing in it. But it’s brown! and I just don’t feel bridal in the whites or ivories – I just feel… fake
My friend said today that she thinks it would be lovely for an autumn wedding. Part of me agrees, but part of me worries I will look like, well, a poo. : ( I’m so sad that’s the connotation that I make!
Any thoughts are very much appreciated!

I think if you feel like a bride – you are a bride. Bridal is NOT white/ivory, necessarily. The point is to look and feel awesome.
Not that it will change my mind — but post a pic just because I would love to see it!

@codysgirl16: What hue of brown? I think a brown dress can look quite lovely (and very ~bridal~), when done correctly:

@codysgirl16: “I love it, and feel amazing in it”
That is all that matters. I think it would be great for an autumn wedding. Think of all the people you’ve seen wear brown, did they look like poo to you? Probably not :). My boss wore a brown shirt today, I didn’t even think of poo. 🙂 I thought it was a nice shade and looked good on her!

@MrsTangerine: +1! That, and you mentioned that you don’t feel like yourself in ivory or white. That’s quite telling.
An autumn bride in brown would be lovely. While it’s not something I’d probably do (I never wear brown – I’m a brunette here, and my specific shade blends in with most browns), it sounds right for you, and that’s what matters. 🙂

“I love it, and feel amazing in it”–Well shucks then go for it!
“part of me worries I will look like, well, a poo.” No one wants to feel like a poo, or constantly wonder if guests are thinking that they look like a poo on their wedding day!
It totally depends on the shade of brown dear! If its a latte or oatmeal brown it could be very bridal and look totally fine. But if it really is the color of a poo, you will probably be self-conscious about it and you have enough to worry about on your wedding!

My BMs are wearing brown dresses. Well actually it’s ‘latte/mocha/burnt copper’ call it whatever you want – it’s still brown. And it’s lovely 🙂

Do you have a photo of the dress you can share? I think you should go with whatever you love and feel comfortable in, weddings can be so much more than the traditional white dress, black tux.

I think if you love it and it makes you feel like a bride, it is bridal. I mean, doesn’t the term “bridal” indicate that somebody would feel like a bride wearing it?
There are so many things that I’ve caught shit for during this process, and I know when it’s said and done people might say “her flowers were ugly,” or “she could have gotten a nicer dress.”
But in the long run you and your husbands will be the only ones to truly care what details and memories went into your wedding, so make it a day that YOU find magical, and not a day that will get the most acceptance and praise from other people.

Can you post a pic of the dress(es) you are considering?
I think brown could be very elegant for a fall wedding.

There are some awesome brown shades that would look really good. If it’s “your” colour, go for it!

Thanks, bees. You all may just give me the confidence to rock a brown dress… It really is the one that keeps sticking in my mind, and the one in which I felt the most fab!
@MlleFabuleux: , @clairebbbear: Where did you find brown wedding gowns? I haven’t seen any in the bridal salons… I have been going to the Bridesmaid or Best Man racks.
For everyone asking about the dress, it’s Impression 1771. It’s beautiful taffeta with rouching and some pick-ups. I will not wear the sash, but my consultant and I have talked about maybe adding a little blingy/lace appliqué here and there, if I’d like for it to look more “bridal”. I’ve also considered tucking some taffetta flowers into the pick ups. We’ll order it in extra length so I can have a little sweep train.
This is a stock pic of the dress in Café (no pics of me in it – fussy salons…). I don’t think the image does it justice – it’s sooooo lovely and flattering on!
The brown I have tried on and am conisdering is http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/anyonw-recognize-this-impression-dress#axzz2Szgxx2HE.

@codysgirl16: I can’t speak for @MlleFabuleux*, but Google Image search is my friend. And a colour thesaurus (I looked up “mocha”, “espresso”. “taupe”, “copper” and evening dress as well as wedding.)
P.S. I really like both dresses. Both are definitely bridal (though I hate myself for making a judgement about what is bridal and what isn’t. Everything is bridal if the person wearing it is a bride, IMHO).
* Actually, I kind of can. I think google image search is her friend too 🙂

I don’t think anyone will see a light brown dress as “looking like poo”. Dark brown, yeah, you might run into problems.
The one you posted in this thread looks lovely to me and I think with applique and bling it will look very bridal.
