A Christmas engagement would be great for me because I LOVE Christmastime! I just don’t want my family around. I love them, but I don’t want people screaming and stuff and I can’t hear what he is saying! (My aunt got engaged on Christmas and that happened to her, so…I know my family!)
I’d love a cabin in the woods, a fire and just us alone.

see the christmas proposals sound so sweet… i actually told m about the poll and asked him what he thought and he said he didn’t know and i said that a lot of women said they wouldn’t like it (to see his reaction) he actually had tears in his eyes?! and said well why wouldn’t they like it and i said i haev no idea!! then i said well ask me what i think of it. and he did.. so i told him it was actually the proposal that i always wanted and as a little girl it was my dream proposal and as an adult it’s my dream proposal. i told him that i know it won’t happen this year around christmastime and i feel sad because i don’t want to have to wait another year for our proposal and that i guess it just won’t happen at christmastime… then i laid my head in his lap and took a nap. i wonder if he had tears in his eyes or if he was yawning?!
eta i told him that when i was a girl my dream proposal happened between thanksgiving and new years eve because i LOVE that part of the year.

We didn’t have a Christmas engagement per say, but our 5 year anniversary was on December 16th. For our anniversary we went to dinner at a restaurant across from the White House, then walked over to see National Christmas tree display. He proposed in front of the Texas Christmas tree! (We are from Texas, but now live in Northern VA)
I would have never guessed it, but I LOVED it! It was cold outside and there was a big, romantic fire pit and lights everywhere! sigh…

@crebre80: I know what you mean about being in a mood that time of year. 🙂 My dream proposal used to involve being at a nice, secluded B&B somewhere here in New England, snow falling outside, fire crackling in the fireplace, drinking hot chocolate and being all cozy together! Until my younger sister got engaged the first week of December. Then my younger brother proposed to his girlfriend 2 weeks before Christmas (on the night I was turning 30, no less!). As a result, Christmas really lost its luster for a while. I told C about all of this, so I’m wondering if maybe that’s when he’ll do it? It would be kind of nice to feel like my dream proposal was given back to me, plus that’s when my exams will be over for the semester. I told C I want it to be just the two of us, but that it would be great to be able to announce it to my family on Christmas Eve. I’m trying not to get my hopes up, but we’ll see! 🙂
@Lara Bee: I got chills, what a great proposal!!! Thank you for telling us!

@hope1275: believe me when i say we’re >>here<< i am sort of over it, if it happens whoopie if not bleh. lol!!! however i am sure that plenty of brides will be graduating from waiting to engaged and i’m so excited!! I hope you are one of them! it would be awesome for your beau to give you back your dream proposal! btw, sitting in front of a warm fire is sooo my way too, but we rarely have snow at home, however my mom has two fireplaces in her house and either one would work.

He asked my parents for my hand on Christmas, but proposed on New Years so it would be just the two of us. It was perfect!

I had a Christmas engagement last year.
We had our Christmas tree set-up since the day after Thanksgiving, and I had been slowly adding presents for my dude underneath. As Christmas got closer and closer I noticed that there was a lack of gifts for me! I didn’t get the hint. I got really pouty and whiney.
Christmas eve was spent at his parent’s house, Christmas day at my mom’s. When we got back from my mom’s in the evening on the 25th, I got really excited because I wanted him to open the gifts I had gotten him. We started with our stockings and after the stockings were done. He got up, said “I gotta go get something,” went to the bedroom and came back. I was sitting on the couch and then he came in and got down on one knee. I immediately started bawling because I knew exactly what was happening. He got worried because I was crying and thought something was wrong. I had forgotten that I had to respond! After a few minutes of bawling he said “Well? What’s your answer?”

I don’t want to wait until Christmas, but last year on Christmas Eve when we were opening our gifts and it was just the two of us in our Christmas jammies, I thought that would be the PERFECT setting for a proposal. And after last night, seems like it might happen like that. Christmas is by far my favorite holiday ever and he knows that so I think he’s considering it.

I never wanted a Christmas engagement but that’s what happened to me! It was last Christmas Day. My Fiance and I live in a different state from both of our families. His family decided to come out for Christmas (the first time both his parents came out since we first moved there) and my parents, brother, SIL, and their two kids came down, also. My family came on Christmas Day and his family got here Christmas Eve. I kinda had a feeling since both our families were coming out but I didn’t really think too much about it. We had finished eating and were just finishing up opening all the presents when my Fiance asked my nephew to help him get one last gift. My nephew and my Fiance went to get the gift and my nephew gave me a box so I opened it and it was an empty box then I looked up and my Fiance was on one knee with my nephew hanging on his neck and he asked me to marry him in front of both of our families. I didn’t really dig the whole in front of everybody thing but it was very sweet and he had it planned for a while to get both our families out there to be with us since we don’t get to see them very often.

I loved my Christmas Proposal! It has always been my favorite time of year! DH proposed Christmas day of 2006 (we were engaged for 2 years and married 11/15/08). Apparently, DH planned to propose on a beautiful sleigh ride he had planned for us – but (wouldn’t you know it) there was no snow that year!!! So he waited, for Christmas morning. He woke me up early (around 6:30) that morning. I remember it was so chilly and when I looked outside everything was covered in a blanket of snow – so romantic 🙂 He told me that he wanted to give me one of my presents in bed because Santa had speciallly delivered it. I didn’t suspect a thing, even when he reached under my pillow and pulled out a medium-sized box. He said that he knew I’ve wanted this for a long time…I opened the box and found a gorgeous pair of cashmere gloves…and it took me a second to realize there was something very shiny on the ring finger…it was my ring. He then told me everything I always wanted to hear from the man I would marry 🙂 and asked me to marry him. I was crying and kept asking “is this for real? are you serious?” I was BURSTING to tell everyone, but of course, everyone was still asleep! So we went downstairs and cuddled under a blanket together in front of the fireplace with hot cocoa – it was magical! Then we got to share it with both our families that day – so exciting!
P.S. We dated for nearly 6 years when he proposed and were together 7.5 years when we married!! SO….I would have taken a proposal in the bathroom at that point – i just wanted to marry him!

i’m not a big holiday person at all. holidays have generally lost their value to me since both of my grandparents passed away. i am extremely doubtful anything will happen before the end of this year, but i would feel bad if he did decide to propose on Christmas since i’ll most likely be spending it w/his family and my mom won’t be around. but in general a Christmas proposal would be kind of sweet i think, and would probably make it sort of special again.

I’m not a big Christmas proposal person, but I couldn’t say no to a sleigh ride! I think that’s the one Christmas proposal I’d like, as I really don’t want it to be in front of family. Unless my barn owner has a sleigh I don’t know about, though, I can’t see Fiance being able to afford that.
