@babe_bamboo:  Why don’t you go with an ombré effect featuring the pink that’s in your tattoo? I really love that colour – it’s pink without being little girl, dark enough to be dramatic, but also cool and clear enough to work in summer.

Actually, FWIW I think you should  base your entire wedding around those colors and that awesome tattoo.. Would give it a kind of Japanese feel.

@babe_bamboo:  If you’re wearing velvet in summer I wouldn’t add long sleeves as well. Even if it is Canada.

Re your questions about the all-over colour, you are basically committed to a big block of the pink or burgundy or whatever as the skirt becuase I don’t think velvet comes with an ombre effect or can be dyed that way. And I agree with you that it would look better for there to be a transition from the white to the colour – in other words, an ombre effect that goes from the bust to the waist/where the skirt joins the top.

If I were designing your dress, if you have the sort of figure that can do this I would suggest having a halter neck top so that the white extends from the bust to your shoulders, which I think might give the colours a bit more balance. It would also mean you could have a low back, which would be cooling, and might cancel out the warmth of the skirt.

I would also add a green belt or sash at the point where the skirt meets the bodice – to hide where the two different fabrics meet but also to add a pop of colour. But that’s just me LOL.

@babe_bamboo:  It is going to be 95 degrees where I am today, so I cannot even think about velvet right now without feeling slightly ill LOL.

I wasn’t suggesting strapless either – I find it just as boring and ubiquitous as you do – I was just suggesting something less warming than sleeves. With a dress as dramatic as yours, I think one shoulder would work really well too.

@babe_bamboo:  Honestly!? By that rockin tattoo and your obvious style- I think you can rock the dress however you like it! And I still stick to my guns- I think the drapery and feel of velvet requires a heavier, richer colour. I like the other dress colours too..just nothing too light. It has to have a kind of moody feel to it, which is quite cool and sexy!

I really like the dress in the colors it’s shown — the burgundy is really striking. And I think the contrast in colors is what makes it so pretty.

That said, I do think it looks a bit wintery.

I think thsi is a great and different idea! It would make your wedding very unique. Have you ever considered the blush pink one from Maggie Sottero. It is beautiful!

@babe_bamboo:  I think eggplant or emerald would be amazing.

I completely did not anticipate the “bloody” comments either– I really like how the burgundy dress looks. I agree that pink would be too juvenile.

    Beautiful idea!

I love the idea of 3/4 or long sleeves! Whatever you do with the rest of the dress, please go with longer sleeves!
