(Closed) A courthouse wedding, but a year from now dream wedding?

If you get married next week, that is your wedding (legally).  I think it’s great to have a little get together or dinner at a nice restaurant to celebrate.  I’m not sure you’d call it a reception, per se, since a reception is when the hosts ‘receive’ guests as a thank you for attending a ceremony.

What you’ll have next year is a vow renewal, or if you’re religious it could be a marriage blessing.  You should skip pre-wedding parties like bridal showers or bach parties, but there’s no law saying you can’t have a ladies’ luncheon or a girls’ night out.

I think the outfit you described sounds lovely too!

@rosepetals12:  I basically did the same thing, got married on paper in March for military reasons and we are having what I call “big wedding” in July. Our situation is different because we didn’t let everyone in on the fact that we were married. My family is pretty traditional and wouldn’t understand. We’ve decided to celebrate both dates, our March date just me and him and the July date a little bigger of a celebration.
