“You can usually tell that a man is good if he has a dog who loves him.”
I read “A Dog’s Purpose” while on vacation and I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves dogs! It’s about a dog who lives through 4 separate lives. Once as a stray, another as a family dog, then as a police dog, ect. All through this he is trying to discover his true purpose. It’s a tear jerker, but there are so many deeply profound moments too.
Any other dog/pet lover book recommendations?

@DeathByDesign: Well… it’s not a tearjerker, and it’s not a book, but NOVA did a documentary on how dogs developed into domesticated animals. It’s really good, and you find out so many things about dogs… like the fact that they developed their barking styles specifically to communicate with humans! How cool is that?
As far as book recommendations, I used to have a Reader’s Digest compliation hardback (laugh if you want! I loved it!) that was ALL stories about pets. It was amazing. I wish that I could find it.

Also, the Science of Dogs was very good (documentary).

@DeathByDesign: I started reading that but couldn’t get into it. I might have to give it another try.

@obxredfish: That’s on my to-read list! 🙂
@Meowkers: How far did you get into it? I kind of thought the dog’s whole first life was pretty meh, but after that it get’s good! I totally think you should give it another try. 🙂

YES! This! I bawled like a baby sooo many times throughout that book!
I like the “Chicken Soup” books, (they have for the Pet Lover’s Soul books which are about dogs, as well as other pets, like cats, etc., and they also have Dog Lover’s Soul books).
Petfinder.com put out a cute book of adoption stories. It was pretty short, but sweet. It’s called Petfinder.com Presents: Second Chances.
Oh! Thought of another one: Amazing Gracie. Cute story about a deaf Great Dane and the guys who love her.

It was a Christmas gift a few years ago and it was beautiful, touching, and humorous. I highly recommend it.
