i am totally doing a big elaborate fake cake and having cupcakes for the guest…i can decorate cakes, cake bake for the life of me.   i would never be able to afford the kind of cake that i want.

@julies1949: Agreed. My cousin was going to go this route for her wedding last year and learned that it would be almost just as expensive to do a faux cake over a real cake. The reason again because the cost of the cake is in decoration.

I would suggest as a few PP to have a smaller (perhaps two layer) cake and for the rest of your guests use sheet cake to save money.

@Jasminelani: That is what I plan to do, I am not a fan of spending more than $30 for a cake. Yes, even though it is is my big day, but it irritates me to see chuncks of cakes at weddings that go to the trash when the host spent $500-$700 on the cake. Therefore , I have opted to purchase the fake cake cover it with fondant and hydrangeas and buy the 1/2 sheet of cakes give slices out.
