The dres you picked is beautiful. I agree with you that if you know the wedding will be “full out formal”, a long dress is required.

I assume the venue is air-conditioned? I would pick something in lighter weight fabric and a summery color.

It sounds like this wedding might be more formal than normal weddings – going with a long dress vs a short one is the easiest way to make it a little more formal.  You don’t HAVE to go with a long dress, but it does dress you up a bit more.

I disagree with the Ann Taylor dress – it is definitely not formal enough!  A short cocktail dress COULD work, especially in a matte satin or other more formal fabric.  But the AT dress looks like something I’d wear to work.

I agree about the statement necklace tho – that will definitely dress up your outfit.

Doing something special with your hair will dress up your look as well.

I don’t think you need to worry about looking like you’re going to prom, unless the people getting married are still in high school.  Most adults do not relate formal dresses to prom.

I would do a long, chiffon dress in a pretty color with some fun jewelry.

I love the 2nd cache gown too! That’s beautiful.

@aliavenue – I guess it’s been so long since my prom that I can’t really picture a “prom” dress! lol – I agree that the prom dress that you linked would not be appropriate.
