@lilek22 “It reminded me of pirates of the Caribbean actually”

LOL! That’s exactly what I thought! That’s not a wedding dress, it’s an overblown costume. I wouldn’t wear it as a wedding dress if you paid me to do so.

Your inspirational photos are gorgeous and you should definitely stick with your original plan of searching out a dress that makes YOU feel like a gorgeous bride.

I didn{t really like that dress until the 3rd photo… it IS beautiful. But it IS a lot of dress, and it’s not subtle like your inspiration photos. If you don’t like it, just politely say you had another dress in mind. You need to be comfortable.

That dress is awful, don’t get bullied into wearing it!! It was really sweet of her to give you the free dress, just be honest and say you don’t think it fits into what you always envisioned….maybe offer to bring her dress shopping with you and your mom & you could treat her to dinner?

I agree with all the other replies here and would say the dress definitely reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean. The politest way to say no would be to nicely tell the family friend or have your mom tell her if you feel uncomfortable that you already have a dream dress in mind and really appreciate her giving you this dress but you have to stick to your gut feeling since this is YOUR special day. The family friend can’t push this dress on you because her daughter is now not going to use it. This is your special day and the dress is all part of the excitment and finding the right dress is one of the best parts. You wouldn’t want that to be taken away from you with a dress you don’t like. I really don’t think that’s a wedding dress, it looks like a costume.

    Good luck!

My gut instinct said YUCK!!!! No way… It looks like a couple of different dresses sewn together. Sometimes the word cotoure means crap, haha! Your other options were a thousand times better. Any of those would do, just not that golden nightmare…

EEEEK! It looks too costumy. Your inspiration dresses are lovely, I would go with your gut and get something you really love rather than settle for someone else’s vision (which is what I NEARLY did before I came to my senses, I literally didn’t sleep for a week!).

I’m with everyone else, it looks like a fancy dress costume – like you were going to a masquerade ball in the 1800s…sorry, but it’s hideous!!  Go with something else, your inspirational dresses are SOO much prettier!

I hate to be rude, but this “high end” dress looks sorta cheap!  And super gaudy….free or not I know I would never wear it.  And based on your inspriational dresses, this is completely not your style.  You can politely decline and get what you want- no one can be mad at you for wanting to be yourself and wear something you are comforatble in.

It’s a lovely dress, but it’s not you. On your wedding day you need to express your personality and own-self, not wear what someone else wanted you to. It’s a very sweet gesture, but I would kindly refuse and say that you had another dress in mind. πŸ™‚

That dress looks cheap cheap cheap!  I do not believe it came from a high end boutique.  It belongs in the trash.  I do not envy your situation.  But honestly, somebody who gives you a wedding dress and actually expects you to wear it just has their head in the clouds.  You should not feel bad about refusing it.  Just say it’s not your style.  Or better yet, say that the gold won’t jive with the wedding colors you want.

I definitely agree that it looks borderline costume-y. You would have to have a very specific style/theme to wear that dress. You definitely need a dress that makes you feel like YOU. πŸ™‚
