Do you know anything about the house?  We just had a housewarming party for our first home we just bought.  A couple of ideas

  • Lawn Games (Boccee Ball, Croquet, etc)
  • Board Games (Monoply, LIFE, chess, checkers)
  • Nice basket with a 2 sets of REALLY nice towels
  • Set of 4 very pretty wine glasses
  • Glass platter
  • Basket with holiday decor (some things for halloween, thanksgiving, and christmas)
  • Dart Board
  • Ladder, step stool, staple gun
  • Bucket with garage rags, paint brushes, cleaning supplies
  • If they have a fireplace, a set of fireplace tools
  • Tablecloth
  • Set of wicker baskets
  • Flag for front yard

Another thing that we never had room for in our apartment was tupperware.  Now that we have a pantry, its nice to have everything stacked up nicely in the OXO Pop top containers.  You could do a set of those with snacks.

Well, even if it’s not the prettiest gift, I’m sure they will appreciate the Home Depot gc! We recieved one of those and it was great to have for all those unexpected things! For other ideas, how about:

“welcome to our home” door sign for their front door, you could probably make one with supplies from Michaels

Maybe address labels with their new address on them?

A key hider for the garden?

strangely enough last night i discovered i needed a pie server!! does she bake? usually when a couple moves in together the girl gets the urge to cook and experiment in the kitchen (or at least everyone i know does)…

In the past I have given board games, shatter resistant cups and outdoor placematts for outdoor entertaining, platters, a few bottle of wine or liquor, door knocker (Thing Remembered has them for engraving), a First Home ornament (Macy’s has a great Wedgewood selection of them).

But I like the idea of a basket with holiday decor… so smart!!!

I usually give plants or a bottle of wine or champagne as a housewarming gift. But I’m not very creative. 🙂

I would honestly still throw in the Home Depot gift card! Nothing more appreciated than some good hard cash!

Do they have a yard?
How about some gardening tools in a flower pot?

Do they have all the house necessities?

Are you guys in cold weather?
How about a Home Depot 5gallon tub with a couple boxes of window shrink wraps? Those that live in cold climates in a old house would know what I’m talking about!

I once gave a door knocker to a colleague of mine. He just moved out of that home and I noticed on his facebook page he had taken a final picture of his engraved door knocker – how sentimental! Its a great gift, and one that makes a house feel like a home.

For something different and with the economy the way it is…maybe pay a bill for them…like an electric bill or cable bill. I know in my area the electric companies here offer gift certificates. Crazy, huh!

I usually give a bottle of wine/6 pack of artisan beer, return address labels/stationary with the new address or a houseplant w/a gift card.
