So, you were with your ex for 6 years and didn’t propose? But then proposed to your Fiance after less than a year? (If I understand correctly…)

I feel bad for the ex. If marriage is what she wanted, then what a waste of her time!

@mantruth:  I’m going to guess: “The girl I was with for 6 years was a comfortable partner, but one I couldn’t see spending forever with. I had a lot of indicators that gave me second thoughts about our longevity, and as we grew and changed, I realized I needed someone else to better suit me.”

I’m confused, when were you waiting? Or by, “from the other side of the fence” do you mean your ex-girlfriend wanted to be engaged and you didn’t.
