@MademoiselleL:  I will gladly take that lovely lump of coal off your hands any time. LOL! We know what Santa is bringing him for Christmas, naughty naughty!

@Eva Peron: LMAO! A deadly lump of coal too!

If I were you I would have spoken to a manager! That kind of rudeness is not OK….

On a happier note, your ring looks Sparkly and Stunning!

It’s really sad that they do that.  Unfortunetly, the tactic must work on some, because it happened to us as well. When we started shopping for my upgrade, we went to a local jeweler, we had been there once before when Fiance needed links taken out of his watch, they were nice and didn’t charge us.

The clerk and Fiance kicked me out of the store while they were susposidly discussing prices.  When I came back, we chatted for a few minutes and than left. Fiance was depressed. He told me how the guy basically told him my old ring was worthless and that we would be lucky if we got a couple hundred in trade in value. Needless to say, we left the store and didn’t go back. Maybe we should have spoken up but words don’t hurt as much as the loss of a big sale.

We found my new ring at a store I learned about out on pricescope.com. We went in and found exactly what I was looking for, every other place had told us that it had to be custom made. They took my old ring and looked at it and than offered us just about what Fiance had paid, without us telling them. We were happy with that and glad to purchase from them.

EW!  What a jerk! Your ring is beautiful and 8k to upgrade seems outrageous. I would’ve kicked him…but I have no tact.

What a complete jackass. Your ring is gorgeous! And that cracks me up that even the sales lady didn’t want to be associated with that kind of attitude. Good for her.

Ouch! Jewelers can be so rude! I went to look at bands at Zales and had a similar experience (although, yours takes the cake, that sales guy was a moron!). I walk up and show the jeweler my e-ring and tell him I want to look at matching bands. First thing he says is “where did you get that ring?” I answered him (FI bought it from a very reputable jeweler in town, a high end one). He said “Oh wow. It’s beautiful. But let me tell you, I could get you an even bigger ring for cheaper. He overpaid for that thing. I mean, it’s nice, but it could be better”.

UM….who are you to tell me my fiancee made a mistake with my ring?! Jewelers are so obnoxious sometimes….anything to sell a rock.

@MademoiselleL: Yea it’s pretty sad. Your ring is beautiful, but I’m sure you know that! And I totally agree that the sentimental value is worth more than the rock itself. 🙂

That is so horrible!!!  Clearly somebody doesn’t know how to earn customers.  I’m so sorry that you had to stand there while this a-hole said that 🙁

I think your ring is BEAUTIFUL!!!  Rock that rock girl!

Ha- I just saw your ring on another thread and stopped to stare at it.  I thought to myself, “Wow, that’s a beautiful ring.  I love the size of the stone and the setting…I wonder where she got it?”  I think you have a lovely ring and that jeweler is an INSANE JERK!  I would’ve put him in his place and walked away.
