Hi Bees, I feel the need to have a rant about my ring based disasters…
My fiancee proposed to me last October on the beach when we were on holiday and it was perfect. Unfortunately, the ring was not 🙁
I was in love with the design, but th more I looked at it, the more issues emerged. It was custom made in the US and shipped to the UK, but the craftmanship was questionable at best 🙁 issues included; a heavily included centre stone (despite being advetised as top quality), diamonds that were set wonky (that we later found out were actualy CZs!) and underneath the halo, there were only a couple of holes to allow the light to shine through the stones – many had been missed
When we got back home, we contacted the company immediately and told them about the issues. They did not offer to fix the ring (which would have been great, as I am sentimental and would have preferred my ring to be the one that I was proposed to with) but did offer a full refund. Fair enough,we accepted. The day befre we sent it back we took the ring into a local jeweller who does custom design work and showed the ring – we asked if they could replicate it for us, but with good build quality. They took all sorts of measurements etc and we arranged for a consultation.
After our consultation, we decided to go ahead with this new local company. This is about 7 weeks before christmas. The consultant says that they will do their best to get it done before christmas, but we told them there was no rush – we would rather it took longer and was perfect.
Two weeks before christmas, we hadn’t heard anything (they said they would call us when it had been cast and was ready to set the stones) so assumed that it wouldnt be done till new year. Imagine how pleased we were when we got a phonecall tewo days later to let us know that the ring was ready to collect! My Fiance picked it up while I was at work (and it was the longest shift evvverrr!) and I couldnt wait to see it.
I got home, he opened the box, and I was gutted. The ring was wrong!! :'(
There weren’t any diamonds on the shoulders for a start, the issue with the holes not being punhed underneath was repeated (and the holes that were there were all sorts of different sizes!) and there was a HOLE in the side of the halo with a diamond hanging OUT! :”(
I won’t go through all the he-said/I-said from when we took it back in, but the guys attitude was HORRIBLE!! He EVENTUALLY admitted that the work wasn’t great, but his excuse was ‘I normally give myself more time to fix the mistakes, but as ou wanted it for Christmas I rushed it through’. Needless to say, I was speechless!! he then very rudely and abuptly asked me ‘well what do you want then?’ so I managed to respond with ‘A full refund’ which was propmptly given, with no hint of an apology and a very negative attitude. Unbeleivable.
(on that note, any UK brides, avoid Rings By Design, who work out of a shop called Polised in Houghton Le Spring)
After two failed attempts at getting this ring made for me, the design has lost it’s appeal (negative connotations and all that) so we went back to square 1 and shopped for a ring as if we had no criteria to meet. I am happy to say that I now have a beautiful antique ring, that came with a beautfiful second proposal, but what a rough ride to get there!!
