When did you get your BFP?  If you’re really only 5 weeks, no need to worry — it’s just too early to show up!

Sometimes I think all the new technology just gives parents more weeks of worrying.

My dr wouldn’t even see my until 8 weeks! So consider yourself lucky you even got in! Just be patient…I know, easier said than done lol

That’s probably why my OB wouldn’t see you until at least 8 weeks.

I’m sorry you were bummed at your first appt. I know how exciting/nerve wracking it can be. The earliest my OB would see me is 6w and that’s only due to previous losses – if not he normally doesn’t see you until 8w. With both pregnancies I was exactly 6w1d at my first appt and saw the gestational sac, yolk sac, baby, flickering heart and heard the heart beat. From other girlfriends experiences sometimes the heartbeat can’t be heard until later on in the 6th week or even into the 7th week. Prior to my first appt my OB ran my betas to confirm my numbers were rising as they should so that gave me peace of mind in the mean time. It sounds like your dr is going to do that so just hang in there – like others mentioned easier said than done. Good luck!

Much easier said than done, but try to relax. My OB office won’t see you til 8 weeks either and I think this is part of the reason why. There’s not much to see so early on and it definitely would be stressful to go in and not have a solid confirmation of pregnancy. I went at 9 weeks and couldn’t hear anything on the Doppler, so they had to do an ultrasound to check the heartbeat. Take things day by day and find something non-baby related to distract yourself with… do you have a room that needs re-organizing? Clearing out your closet and making piles to donate? Cooking/baking, gardening, some type of crafty hobby?

Hi Bee,

I’m newly pregnant too, 7 weeks today.  I have my first OB appointment this afternoon and, like you, I’ve been experiencing all of the exact same symptoms except, I have been spotting, which is a little worrisome.  We’ll see today 🙂

My OB won’t even attempt an ultrasound until 7+ weeks. I think having people come in at 5 weeks is just asking for stress.

First trimester sucked, feeling much better in the second. But I think that’s different for everyone.

My advice, don’t do too much.

bluecutie00 :  I wouldn’t worry. I’m surprised they even tried an US at this point. It’s common not to see anything until 7-8w because your hcg has to be MINIMUM at 1500 before you can see baby! Some people are barely between 100-200 at 5w. I’d maybe have a blood draw done before you have another one done just to see where you are 🙂 GL

That’s usually why they shouldn’t do ultrasounda that early.  I’m sure everything is fine.  Most OB appointments are really boring and over in 10 min!  Mine would see you at 6-8 weeks but it is not standard practice to do an ultrasound that early.  But they would definitely do one if you had long or irregular cycles, didn’t know when your last period was, or had other issues.   My first they didn’t do anything until the doppler to hear the heartbeat around 12weeks (and you usually can’t hear a heartbeat wtih a doppler until 10-12 weeks).  My second they gave me an ultrasound at 10 weeks.  There isn’t much point to an ultrasound at that early except to see if it’s a uterine pregnancy.  Try not to stress, there is nothing you can do anyway.

I think I was around 9 weeks when I had my first apt. My OB won’t see you earlier than that for those reasons. Just take it easy and don’t overanalyze things.
