If you chart and use NFP (taking your temps), you will know when you have ovulated based on an elevated temporature.  Did you have a Paragard or Mirena?  I don’t think that removing the Paragard would affect your period, but Mirena might since you won’t have hormones anymore.

I’m zero help re: the IUD since I never had one.  As for charting, if you only are taking your temps then you’re right.  You won’t know you ovulated until after you ovulated and then it’s too late to try that cycle.  If you chart your cervical fluid, too, then you can have a better chance at predicting ovulation before it happens.  Like everyone else, I recommend “Taking Charge of Your Fertility.”  Good luck!  Super exciting time!

You can buy cheap OPK online. They are the lab test strip kind, but I bought 50 tests for $15 over amazon. I wanted to know before I ovulated, not after.

I did the charting and the OPKs (the cheap target brand or similar works fine) together.  It’s nice to have the heads up and see the temps confirm.
