In my last post (first post) I complained about my SO and I not being in a great place, due to living with his mother and being unable to communicate about our hopes and wishes and expectations of the progression of our relationship in an open and honest, pressure-free environment. I’m happy to say that after a long, long emotional chat, the floodgates have opened and we have had an open and honest, pressure free conversation about our relationship! Woohoo!
i raised my concerns about his commitment to the relationship, my concerns that he doesn’t want to set a date for us to get out of living with his mother, he doesn’t want to propose or get married etc., and he has reassured me that he does want to move out because he misses the independence and privacy we had when we lived in our rental, and that he did have plans to propose, but he wanted to do it when we had moved out and not living with his mum anymore, perhaps on the day we moved into our new house (When we purchase it).
we discussed all this and my concerns that if we wait till we buy a house then we may not have the money for a ring let alone a wedding, and that buying a house could potentially still be 3 years away. Long story short, we agreed to a get out of living with his mum date, we agreed to an engagement in the next 12-18 months, which I am a lot more comfortable with 🙂 he said he understands there’s nothing wrong with being engaged while still living with his mum as long as we’re not getting married while we still live here, as I explained that its not a matter of getting engaged then getting married a month or two later, a lot of planning has to go into it lol bless boys for not fully understanding the process!
so now we’re looking at an engagement potentially by our birthdays next year, buying a house at the end of next year/start of 2015, and potentially arranging our wedding for the end of 2016/start of 2016 🙂 to top it all off he surprised me the next day while we were out shopping by stopping by a couple of jewellery stores and asking me which designs I liked best, and lo and behold we found “the” ring! I was completely blown away! We both loved it on sight, and despite looking for other designs we kept coming back to that one.

so I’m still waiting, but at least my SO and I are in a better place than we were before. We’re communicating better, we are on the same page and i feel closer than ever to him 🙂 thanks again to those that pointed out issues for me to address with him, had supportive things to say, empathised with me, and figuratively gave me hugs and held my hand 🙂 so glad I joined weddingbees and found the support I needed in the waiting forum! Love to you all xoxo
