so, my dress estimate arrival date is the 2nd week of Janurary! and of course, we’re having the wedding on Janurary 29th, not to mention that i orderd it at my hometown (4 1/2 hours away!) this is a little too close to my comfort…what if it doesn’t arrive on time? why does it take wedding dresses so long to arrive? should i have a backup plan in case it doesn’t get in on time? i read a review on the store and this girl was saying she didn’t get her dress on time…it didn’t do much to help that…anyone else’s dress coming in really close to the wedding day?

I’ll have mine in 4 weeks before the wedding. 4-6 months delivery time is standard for the designer I ordered from. I’m trying not to stress about it. If it doesn’t get here in time, best believe I won’t be leaving the bridal store empty handed!
If it comes down to the cut be really blunt with the store owner or manager. Don’t talk to the sales consultants because they don’t have the authority to make big decisions. I know in my case if my dress somehow didn’t come in on time I would be making that store give me a few alternative options. If your dress is coming in brand new and unaltered it will be easy for them to sell it again. I’d probably ask for my funds (or part of them) to go towards another dress that they have on the racks. You could say to them that you will pay for the alterations and cleaning, but you want the cost of the dress covered and they can keep your original gown. Be polite as possible through all this, but if they still won’t budge and you’re left with little options than tell them you’ll be writing an article to the local newspaper, lodging a complaint with the better business bureau, or smearing their name on a review site. Usually they’ll do anything to avoid bad publicity…

thanks, those are great suggestions! i really hope it doesn’t get to that point, and the dress gets in on time, but at least now i have a couple of ideals of what to do just in case it does. thank you!

I am having the same concern. My wedding is Jan. 8. They said the dress would be in the first of second week of December. I ordered it in May. So annoying. They told me not to worry. Easy for them to say!

There is a good chance it may come in early too. I ordered mine July 18, 2009. I was told it would be in early to mid January, and it actually came in the first week of November.

but stores normally tell you the upper limit of the delivery window, so you don’t freak out too much if it takes longer than they say. there’s a good chance you’ll have it early. and i would start calling the shop weekly after christmas to ask if they know when it will be in!
