Alright Bees, I want opinions! I’m less than 9 months away from my wedding! I’m having an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding – particularly, a Mad Tea Party!! Here’s an overview of what I’m planning so far. . . tell me what you think! If you have any other ideas, I’d love to hear them!!!
For starters, I want to say that Alice in Wonderland is a little over the top – especially the mad tea party theme. Everything is mismatched, maybe oversized, colorful, and quirky! That’s what I love about it! I’m not exactly going for CRAZY. . . I want to be a little different, is all. I’m tired of going to the same old weddings where there’s nothing unique. Here’s my ideas so far:
I’m going on the premise that I’ll be “Alice” – all of my accessories are my something blue. My jewelry, shoes, and garter! My bridesmaids are the “Mad Hatter”. They’ll be wearing teal and carrying pink and purple flowers (for the cheshire cat!).
I’ll be hanging paper lanterns in all different shapes and sizes from the verandah where our outdoor ceremony will be held. (Paper lanterns can be seen in the mad tea party scene of the movie, as well as on the “Mad Tea Party” ride in Walt Disney World)
In one scene of the movie, there’s a tree with a TON of signs pointing you where you need to go. I plan on making my own sign that guests will see after the ceremony into the cocktail hour. Signs saying “up”, “down”, “this way”, “that way”, “down the rabbit hole”, etc.
There will be a signature drink called “The Mad Hatter” which will be the color of his hat. This is my “drink me”.
My favors will be sugar cookies that say “eat me” on them – like the cake she eats in the movie! I, for one, prefer, edible favors.
Our centerpieces will be stacked oversized teacups that look like they’re falling over. I’m going to be painting the teacups to portray different characters. The bottom one will be the mad hatters hat, followed by a “clock” for the white rabbit”, followed by a pink and purple striped one for the cheshire cat, and lastly a blue and white one for alice. I’m going to fill the top one with fake moss and stick giant ostrich feathers out the top to make it colorful.
Each table is going to be a character, rather than a number. So, instead of sitting at table 1, you’ll be sitting at the mad hatter table! There will be framed pictures on the tables and pictures of the characters on the place cards.
We’re having a photobooth, and I plan on having some “Alice” themed props for it – mainly hats or DIY masks.
We’re going to have two teapots with our names on them during the reception. Whosever teapot has more money in it by cake cutting gets the cake in their face!
And our cake is going to be topsy turvy with each tier themed differently. The bottom tier will be the mad hatter’s hat. The middle tier will be the cheshire cat. The top tier will be a “table” with an oversized teacup on top with a bride and groom sitting inside of it.
Thoughts? Opinions? Ideas?
