We rent a townhouse currently. Hoping to buy a house in about 4 years (once I finish my program & internship)

We rented an apartment for a year, now we’ve moved in to FI’s parent’s house as we’re getting ready to move to DC when I graduate law school. We’ve been looking at townhouses in northern Virginia which is a sticker shock, but we will make it work!

Hmm just looked it up, condo does seem to mean an appartment that is owned rather than rented…. I voted that we owned an appartment just because I was not familiar with the term condo.

I know a lot of people in NYC and Brooklyn call their places apartments even though they own them.

We’re currently renting an apartment, but we’ve got the eventual goal of owning a house – once things are more financially stable and I’m out of grad school.

Dreaming about the days I can truly customize our space… 😛

We own a house. We bought it a couple months before getting engaged.

When I first started university my mom and dad bought me a condo. The mortgage is cheaper what they would have been paying for my rent and it’s a good investment (: Now that SO is living with me he pays half the mortgage and my parents pay my half. It’s really great and I’m so thankful!

Peanut and I own a townhouse.  Someday soonish we want to upgrade to a single family home but housing in our area is expensive! What we have right now is pretty great for where we are in life, though. We bought back in January.

We own a townhouse. We bought it in April 2010 and got engaged in Sept 2010. I wouldn’t have bought it if I wasn’t certain the engagement was coming. Plus, the LL was kicking us out of our rental (long story) so it was the best ‘worst’ thing that could have happened to us.

we rent an apartment. Fiance is in law school so when he’s finished and we move wherever we’re going to move, we’ll start thinking about buying. But we’ll rent for at least a year after we’re married until he’s finished with school (and probably for a little bit after that as well).

We rent a duplex which we LOVE, our house is awesome and our neighbor is quiet, respectful, and pleasant to share walls with 🙂

We plan on buying in the next 2-5 years, depending on how the money situation works out. We want to have a LARGE down payment, if not pay for the whole thing in cash up front, to avoid the racket that is mortgage/loans/everything else.

Why does it say “I had heard of this before” next to own an apartment?

We rent an apartment. In the areas I’ve lived in, apartments and condos are pretty much the same thing, but you own a condo (or rent one from an owner) and you rent an apartment from a management company and live in an apartment community. Condos are a little better built but they are not any bigger and can even be smaller than apartments depending on the unit/neighborhood.
