-alcohol = 1,500 for open bar

-decorations = 0 (we only used flowers as our decor!)

-flowers = 500 (my aunt grew our flowers and my sister who is a florist arranged them and gave us an obvious discount!)

-your dress = 2100 with alterations

-bridesmaid/groomsmen gifts along with hair/make up paid= $1000

-invitations/save the dates DIY, 88 STDs, 97 ridiculously elaborate invitations, including postage approx. $200

-venue Outdoor ceremony, indoor reception, including tables & chairs for 250 in both areas, 3 hour block for ceremony, 5 hour block for reception (but room available for setup/tear down all day) $2575

– food buffet lunch including plastic plates & cutlery and napkins ($9.99 p/p + taxes & service fees) $3486.05 (this does not any drinks or the cups for that. Cocktail hour snacks are a gift from my godmother)

-alcohol We are doing just wine & beer. It’s going to run about $800. Champagne (approx $250) is a gift from a friend.

-decorations Some dude is covering the ceiling/columns in tulle & lights for $200. All other decor is DIY and came out to approx $150. Total $350

-flowers All paper DIY and part of the “decorations” total above.

-your dress $267!!!!! Purchased from Kiyonna.com with a coupon.

-bridesmaid/groomsmen gifts This is still up in the air but I’m averaging about $35 per person (I have five + flower girl). Custom ties for the groomsmen were $35 each but they’ll also be getting a gift in the $30 range.

how many people did you invite? We invited 249 people total. Expecting about 200 so the catering number might change slightly.

-anything else I forgot! You have to pad your number but at least 10%. There are so many expenses you never think of. For me it’s been swatch samples, supplies I didn’t end up using, ordering food for the people who came over to help make shit, gas and meals when we have to go to the venue yet again for some nonsense, makeup trials, alterations, hostess gifts for your shower…. I’d estimate I’ve spent at least $1000 on these things so far.

You’re also forgeting things like the flower girl basket, ring pillow, card box, guestbook, favors, escort cards, signage, bubbles or things to be thrown at you, transportation, hotel the night of, gifts for parents or people who contribute, tips….

Things you should have included that isn’t in the “catch all” category above:

Officiant: for us, free. It’s a family member.

Music: again, family member for us = free

Cake: gift

Non alcoholic drinks: I’m estimating this will be about $150- $200 for us including cups

Ice: I have no idea how much ice costs but at my cousin’s wedding we needed like 100 pounds total.

-any outside help (ie parents paying for food) We received two “help out with the wedding” checks from my family totaling less than $1000 all together. BUT… we are having a ton of help.

-was anything DIY Just about every decoration, the ring box, the card box, the guestbook, programs, flower girl’s dress

-how long you saved for the wedding About a year but we are putting a lot of it on credit and will probably be paying that down for another year.

-where the wedding was and it’s significance to the cost We’re getting married in San Diego on the marina. We live in LA so I think the cities are pretty comparable in price.
