Ugg that’s rough. Why do men get all crazy nervous or indifferent when it comes to ring commercials, engagements, weddings on tv or in real life and women tend to get all sappy or look at the guy like “when are you gonna ask buddy?” lol.

Edited. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hadn’t had the chance to watch it yet. Anyway, I think I watched the same episode. It wasn’t awkward for us because I didn’t comment on it, but it did make me a little misty-eyed.

Hmm some people just act like that during those scenes.  Before Fiance and I were engaged I would get super uncomfortable during those parts of shows movies etc.  He was indifferent.  One thing though he learned I guess is how to propose to me lol.  I never liked long drawn out proposals with speeches it just made me uncomfortable.  I was more into the ones like how Carrie was proposed to in Sex in the City.  A surprise and a ring.  No words.  Fiance did it surprinsingly a lot like that, I wonder if he noticed that was one of the few proposals that didn’t make me cringe! I myself had never given the whole thing much thought and just told him if we ever got there I’d like the on one knee bit.  Altough we had already had a discussion a few days before about how we were both ready to take that step.

Maybe your SO just has a plan that doesn’t match that and so hes uncomfortable because he’s scared it won’t live up to your expectations.  Have you guys discussed marriage yet?  Is that something you know he wants?

I watch every bride on TV and we’ve seen a lot of proposals recently. I comment on it and he acts indifferent. When I showed him some rings I like the other day, he barely looked!

Giving up dreams for a 2012 proposal, feel like it’s not going to happen shortly Cry

I think these kinds of things make some SO’s nervous and akwward because they either believe they “should” be proposing but haven’t yet, or because their SO’s want them to propose, but they aren’t ready to do so for whatever the reason may be. Plus, I think it also puts a degree of pressure on men, whether it be to propose in a certain way, or they feel pressured to propose in general.

I don’t think his awkwardness about that TV episode is a sign that he doesn’t want to get engaged. It could just be that he found it too sappy/weird/whatever, or because he knows you really want to get engaged but he might not have the ring yet or something.

That’s always happening on HIMYM, which is my SO’s and I favorite show…that’s because Ted proposes to every girl he meets! But yeah, I am trying to perpetuate the idea that proposing engagement is the most natural thing in the world. There is nothing special about it…just be cool man…no big deal…I think if we set the tone, they will follow. Just take his hand or something.

I forgot about this thread. I saw the episode the next day (Fri) and I actually teared up. I don’t even like that show that much, but SO loves it so we watch it together most of the time. But since the propsosal, I think I’m hooked  😉
